If you had a N/A drag car which transmission would make your car run faster in the quarter?

Having the same rear gear also.

Greg didnt you already grace all the guys in the tech section with your knowledge of how powerglides are faster. Why are you asking if you know already.

Fastest SB N/A cars that are not running a stick, are running a proflite, which is a 3 speed automatic. And it has more to do with just the first gear ratio. Shift drop rpm, and the shift recovery of the engine, in the rpm range it operates in needs to be thought about.

I didn't answer the poll yet, I want to see what others have to say.

How long before you leave and never come back again? How long before you send apology PMs to everybody AGAIN admitting you don't know what the fuck you're talking about?!

These questions never get answered because this sport has 1000's of variables that go into every combination.

That's why guys like Edelbrock put together power packs top end kits, and engine shops like sunset, RM, etcc make their name in selling complete engine kits. The average guy doesn't have the time, knowledge, care to understand how these things are suppose to work together. And the internet only makes it worse today because guys can go online, read 20 posts, and become an expert on cylinder heads.

If your comparing a 2 and 3 speed you should also compare the actual gear ratios of each one, overall weight, rotational weight, converter used for each test, vehicle weight, suspension setup, tires size and construction, driveshaft length and weight, (and I have missed a bunch of stuff) and then you can talk about the engine. Was the induction setup and valve events designed for the rpm range, shift drop, etcc..

Maybe Im off base, but just how I see it.

your never going to get a real answer .all in all a pointless post
suppose a car is real light and has low power band to max the set up.
going to a 3 speed 4, 5 speed wont make a noticeable diffrence .it will trade off in the quarter as you wont be able to use it effectively.
now put it in a heavier car with a high and tight power band. you will find it gets faster up till 5 gears .
parasitic loss and controlled rpm drop are the key to matching the trans to the car........
no right answer for vague poll /

I'm not sure, but I may switch to a 3 speed in my junk now that it's N/A.. 3200+ and a little over a 1000HP.. I'm gonna work with the glide for a while and then probably make the switch.. I got the 727 sitting here that came out of the car, might tune it up and try that.. :p

I spend most of my time on the N/A thread so I figured this would be the appropriate place to post this.
I have pissed off a lot of people. I have sent some of you a PM. There are some of you that I have left off, not intentionally; I have just forgotten just how many people read my crap. I have a lot to learn & have had great advice from most of you. I just get caught up in the drama, again my fault. I have failed in most of my attempts to achieve my goals & spent a lot of money in doing so. I will try to be more discrete in my post from now on. I will do way more reading & less time posting my stupid replies. Again I am sorry to anyone I have offended.

Thanks Chris Uratchko for not booting my ass many times, as I have deserved it.

Greg
and nearly 2 years later he still hasn't acheived his goals, spent even more money, has pissed off even more people and STILL posts his stupid replies!

The poll is useless as are perceptions. Every time we compared a glide to 400 a-b-a no other changes, the glide ran a little quicker. However engine, chassis and todays racers love of little tires creates a dynamic that only testing parts will answer to. I realize that bugetary issues are overwhelming for many little guys but if you can't test try different pieces then you will never really know.
