I just got a set of Ed Quay 1 7/8 long tube headers for my 91 GTA.

Not really happy with the way they sent them to me, but Bob at EQ assured me that is how every set gets sent out (they came to me tack welded for better fitment)

Anyone use these headers?
What did you use for motor mounts?

The rest of the header looks pretty good

They recommended that it be shipped that way, so that I can fit it in the car, then finish up the welding. I would be able to move pipes in place if necessary.

I thought the pipes-to-flanges would have been all worked out, then all I would have to do is the final weld.

I'm not really happy either

Maybe we are all misunderstanding this then.

These headers were built and shipped to you semi-finished so you could make sure everything fits correctly? Were you to then ship them back to have them finished? What did they cost? There is no way you were to bolt those on and go. I buy a lot of stuff from Ed Quay, have never had a problem with anything from them.

Lemmons stuff is around $1250 or so unpainted, not cheap, but fit and finish was perfect.

Yes, you can OPT to get them this way. the metal bends to the flange with ease for a final weld. you CAN get them 100% if your confident they will fit your k member and head exhaust port location.I`m sure they don't have every combo to build a set that will fit 100% to Your car. Yes it`s not less on the price but it is easier to adjust the tubes IF needed....trust me, that 20 gauge metal bends simply with a very small ball peen.. done it many times

Ed Quay does not always send them to the customer like this.

He recommended to be shipped just tack welded, not fully welded.

But I thought atleast they would have bent the pipes to the flange to be ready for a final weld.

Unfortunately, the price was the same for welded or just tacked.

Seeing where you are located I think you made the right choice. if they didn't fit correctly you weren't going to be sending them back. I agree, the tubing does conform easily with a small hammer, some extra work for you but not too bad, looks a lot worse than it is. Good luck, I'd be blowing-holes in that metal, hopefully you (or a local shop) can do it nicely.

Yes, I sent them these pics.

Bob said that is how all the unfinished tack welded headers get sent to customers.

I guess I should have just got the headers fully welded and took the chance that they would have fit with no issues

Hi guy yes I just bought a set of headers from Ed quay 4 months ago and they look as good as my large tube 1500.00 set of lemons headers, How did you order them? looks like you orders them with the flanges UN welded , They look good to me for not finished header . what needs to be done with the header is fit them on the car place them where needed tac weld tubes so they will not move , then tack them off and weld them . pick a flat place on tube were it touches the flange weld it there then take a blunt chisel and massage it around the flange on the inside of the tube, weld a little more- massage it with a small hammer and a blunt chisel weld a little more till you get all the way around the tube bingo your done. go to the next tube and the next tube till all 8 are done....... I recommend tig welding them . if you do it like I said they will look awesome .. you can mig them but you must be a skilled mig welder or you will need to do some grinding .. good luck . i have done two sets of Ed Quay's headers and they look great
