Ultra black is now pushing $8 here in central Illinois for the 3 oz., at Walmart

It seems to me that this RTV is not the same as before. It seems to have changed color. Not pure black looking any more, slightly gray. Also, not as easy to spread and takes longer to get to its final firmness. I don't really like it anymore. It still says oil resistant, which Ultra Gray does not, which I don't like anymore either.

I prefer Valco aluminum colored RTV. Made in Cincinnati Ohio. Also made in black. It has aluminum powder in it and applies so much more even and spreads easily. Looks great too, especially on China rails with aluminum intake manifolds. I think they have it in the 11 oz tubes too. Speedway Motors had it for $5.99 last time I ordered. Summit has it too, but they have it listed under another name. Valco number is710XX195 for silver and black is 710XX135.

Mark, I noticed the last tube of Ultra Gray took a lot longer to cure than previous tubes did. I always waited the 24 hours on the intake ends before water or oil or starting engine. Last time it looked like it wasn't cured yet, so I waited an extra day. It did seal, though. Probably like everything else, it's just made cheaper......
Have you noticed the MrGasket intake gaskets, lately??? Looks like a drunk cut out the gaskets. I have to use the .120 thick, it's just 2 1/16 glued together now, and glued crooked at that. I guess the ****** can't see straight......

^^^^Mark, did it ever cure??.... I have a tube of Ultra gray right now that after 2 days on a clock repair for my wife, it still is sticky to the touch, not a whole lot different than when I put it on, it is inside where the temp never gets below 68 degrees. I'm thinking maybe put it in the sun?????
Or is this another product that is now garbage?

Seems something has changed from the old days on this. It used to have a shiny black appearance and was easy to spread with your finger without it sticking and pulling up. Now it looks dull and a little gray. It does say oil resistant and to assemble loosely immediately, but let set up for 30 minutes before final tightening. They still make one that just says Black RTV on it and it is more like what I remember. The Ultra gray says not for use around gasoline. Also, both Ultra Black and Ultra Gray say gasket maker as if to be used as without a gasket? The one that says Black RTV does not say that.

Yes, my Ultra Black finally did set up, but I have not tested it on a running engine yet. I am not optimistic.

I called Valco Cincinatti and ordered their "All In One" Silver RTV 3 oz and 11 ounce. Never had an issue like this with that product. Reasonable price. Ther shipping was too high though, sent it UPS in a box 4 times larger than it needed, so I would ask not to have that to happen.

Their instructions say to apply to one side of the 2 surfaces and let it breath in the air for 15-30 minutes before assembly. Explanation is that Silicone needs to be in the moisture of air to vulcanize. Maybe these Ultra products are no longer "Room Temperature Vulcanizing" silicone?

Summit is supposed to stock Valco products soon. They have other products in their catalog, including Holamar sealing products and specialized tools

Thanks for the reply. I sure hope this ultra gray does finally cure. I put it in the sun hopefully this will help. This clock deal is going to be a mess if it doesn't, I can't see scraping this sticky stuff off if it doesn't cure. Don't think I'm going to use Ultra Gray anymore on the car. I'm going to order some of the Valco. Thanks for the reply, good info...

Humidity cures it, that's why when silicone skins over the inside takes longer to cure.

If humidity cures it, how the hell isn't it all cured by now? I live in So. Lousisana! This place is a swamp!! If I just even touch the silicone it gets on my finger. It's been 2 full days now...,.this is getting ridiculous!

Ultra Grey is all I use, for now. Cures in 20 minutes. I have my tube that I left in the garage (8 degrees) sitting on top of the cable box to warm up for tonight. I apply to one surface, assemble cases, and in 20-30 minutes it is cured enough it no longer sticks to my T-shirt, when I flip the case over. I generlly don't wait and my work shirts have lines of grey RTV on them.

EricTheCarGuy suggested a new sealant to me, see his youtube channel.

Stephen at MFactory sure screwed him over on the LSD.

Well, I took off all the Ultra gray on the clock, it was no fifferent than when it came out of the tube 2 days ago.Threw 3/4 tube away.Garbage...I guess it was a bad batch. Used 10 minute epoxy on the clock, should have used that from the start.

Are you sure it was Ultra Grey and not the stuff (Motoseal) made for motorcycles? I bought a tube of it by accident.
