you only use one of the legs for hot. each legg on a 220 outlet is hot with 110. so use the black for hot, the white for neutral and green or copper for the ground. if you are taking it off an outlet make a pigtail and attach it with a wire nut. good luck.
OK, this is a 3 wire 220. It has a black, white and green wire. It's basically like the drawing below but the colors are different. Black and White are hot, green is neutral.
This is what I'm working with.
This is what I would like to do. Break the wires at the wire nuts and wire into the switch as a disconnect but then run a leg to the 110 outlet.
Wire the switch how u want, jumper (pigtail) a hot off the switch to the outlet, from the line side of switch. Pigtail neutral to outlet ground to the box and outlet You should have a running ground back to the panel but not much u can do
I got it! A buddy of mine I saw at lunch told me what to do. This is for my 220 single phase lathe and I wanted a disconnect between the twist-lok plug and the Drum Switch. I also just wanted a 110 outlet for anything miscellaneous I just need an outlet for. It works perfect.
understand this when looking at your panel you will have two main feeders comming into that box, those are your two feed legs they will feed each side of your panel...you need a 110v source from each leg going to your outlet...if you take 2 110v sorces from the same leg your device your are powering will not work...there will only be 110v at that outlet until you draw a feed from each side of the feeders in your panel....
What would fry a plasma flat panel easier and faster? low voltage such as a battery charger, or 220 rigged to the plug? I have to convince the lady that a new tv is needed haha
You should make another Circuit honestly. I have done it myself though I new better. Y Delta service is where I have seen this go bad. Just pull off of one of the hot legs as said.
It will not have the capability to trip in the event of an issue with what is plugged in.
Used to do that when arriving at a job site and all the temp plugs are in use and many cords already tapped in on multi-taps.
Made an adaptor that plugged into the 240 volt plug, it really used to confuse the carpenters, they would ask where that 240 volt worm drive came from. And the 240 volt hot glue gun and fans and sanders. Never had an issue arise but it could happen with a short or something.
