How are you guy's doing winches? I want to mount mine behind my cabinets. Are you reinforcing the floor etc? Ideas and pics would be great.

I'm a big believer in 2" receiver mounting. With modern PM motors which draw less, it can be VERY handy to be able to move the thing to a hitch, etc.

You can get so called "Anderson connectors" in many amp ratings, they are not terribly expensive. The larger ones the terminals can be soldered instead of crimped which makes it fairly easy to make a plug in situation to a cable

I have my winch mounted to the front floor area of my trailer. Under the trailer between the frame rails I welded a 3/8" piece of steel that the winch bolts go through.

My trailer has 3/4 inch plywood floor w/ aluminum tread plate over the plywood. My winch is mounted under the tool box on the side with a snatch block near the center. The winch is mounted to the plywood with some large flat washers on the underside of the floor. Most of the pull on the winch is linear. Mine has been mounted that way since I bought the trailer in 1995. My car weighs about 2900 with out me in it. I did switch to a winch rope a few years ago and that was a real nice upgrade.

I know a million guys don't reinforce their winch, but I ALWAYS go frame to frame with 1/4" plate.
Mine is actually removeable.
It can be side mounted or straight.
All I did was weld in 2 plates with nuts and you can use it either way depending on which car I'm running that w/e.

My winch is side mounted in the trailer, just left of the man door. The pull rope goes from the winch to a pully directly in front of it in the center of the trailer than to the back. This way it doesn't matter where you pull from, the rope is always in the center of the winch spool. My trailer is 28' and I don't trip over the winch rope this way and I can get to the spare tire hatch, if the golf cart is not on it.

Ours it mounted to a crossmember under the trailer floor, then has a UHMW(hard plastic) plate on the trailer floor for the strap to pull around. Built a box between two crossmembers around it and made a small section of floor hinge open to access it as needed; mostly because we toss the line in when its spooled out.

Out of sight, out of the way, and no cable/strap to trip over.

Like I said, I believe it's the bracket.

I have only seen one ATV winch when a neighbor wanted me to weld up some kind of adapter so it could be floor mounted.
My welder was broke, so we never did build anything.

I would bet it's a very easy fix.

Did not read the earlier posts.

When you mount the winch, pay attention to side to side mounting.
Mount it so the cable itself winds in and winds out without pulling to one side or the other
and getting spooled up in a bunch.
That's a great tip.

I have an issue with this because I have too many cars.
I mounted the winch for the car I use the most, and it's a pain in the ass for the other two.
You have to push the rope with your foot.

If I ever start using the new trailer, I will make multiple mounting locations.
