No, it seems silly to you. How you feel is exactly how I feel about the ridiculous article written by Mr Austin. But then again, I don’t avoid the Bible, and I don’t avoid the science world. So perhaps Mr Austin’s article doesn’t seem as silly to you, but I doubt any actual geologists took him seriously.
Since I didnt read Mr Austin's article, it really wouldnt be fair for me to comment on it...

Actually, that’s not true. There is substantial evidence supporting one side of this discussion. The problem is that most people from the other side either avoid the evidence, or they don’t acknowledge it. There are believers in this thread who claim to accept and understand “science”, yet they continually post things that show they don’t know anything about it. Unfortunately, the path to God is littered with ignorance.
Your problem is you only accept the science that you want to.

Schmidt, I googled “why us public schools are failing”
NOTHING was mentioned about religion being the cause. A lot of other things, but religion was not one of them.
Now, for being married to a public school teacher of 18 years, living in the Bible Belt, and having 2 children in the public school system, I pretty much have first hand knowledge on what’s wrong with the public school system and I promise you it’s not the influence of religion.
Do yourself a favor and do some research, maybe you can come up with a way to help solve the problem.
So then, explain why so many countries are doing better than us are less religious.
It has been well demonstrated here that believers have less knowledge of science.

Our educational system has gotten soft on discipline...How many of the other countries, that has passed us, are soft on discipline? Hell, your favorite country, China, has restricted video game playing to a minimal amount of time a week...I dont think that is a bad thing, but it shouldnt take the government to make it happen...

Stop being dishonest.

Better explanation, they don't teach the kids to believe in superstitious nonsense.

Again it has nothing to do with religion. Public schools receive money on how many kids graduate, they push them through so they can graduate. School administrators only care about standardized test scores and thats what teachers are told to focus on teaching. Don't even get me started on the emphasis on sports facilities. When a school district goes millions of dollars in debt to build football fields and basketball arenas, that money could be used for education.
The school district my kids go to tore down buildings that housed auto mechanics and wood shop classes, done away with those classes, just to build a new parking lot for the football field.

So it is just a coincidence that the more religious a country is, the lower on the list it is?

Also within the USA, the most religious states are poor performers.

Yeah, it has nothing to do with single parent upbringings, rising crime rates, more people living below poverty level, lack of discipline, catch and release programs, etc...etc....it's the parents teaching religion,...yeah, ok. Funny, no mention of that in this article, or many others I can link you to.

Schools Fail to Educate at Least 30 Percent of Our Students

Most of the urban and rural students, primarily from families below the poverty level, are not getting even a rudimentary education. In fact, according to a recent study released by the America’s Promised Alliance (an organization chaired by Colin and Alma Powell), the U.S. has a 30 percent rate of students failing to graduate high school. But the really upsetting data is that in urban settings typically 50 to 70 percent of the students fail to graduate! (see story here) This is more than an embarrassment. This is an epidemic of failure that costs America billions of dollars in lost productivity and high crime rates.

You are helping my argument, thanks.
Explain why less religious countries don't have those problems.

Explain to me how you know those at the bottom of the educational spectrum as far as grades and drop out rating and graduating are being taught religion.

The chart makes it clear, the more religious the country is, the worse their performance is.

Same goes for states in the USA.
If you adjust for immigration, it is even more dramatic.

Oh look.

.

What do students’ beliefs about God have to do with grades and going to college?

Over the past 30 years, sociologists and economists have conducted several studies that consistently show a positive relationship between religiosity and academic success. These studies show that more religious students earn better grades and complete more schooling than less religious peers.

Effects of Religious Practice on Education

Increased religious attendance is correlated with higher grades. In one study, students who attended religious activities weekly or more frequently were found to have a GPA 14.4 percent higher than students who never attended. Students who frequently attended religious services scored 2.32 points higher on tests in math and reading than their less religiously-involved peers.

More than 75 percent of students who become more religious during their college years achieved above-average college grades. Religiously involved students work harder in school than non-religious students.
