How does one go about doing this by hand without killing oneself :smt102

Drop it on some old tires.

Or back the truck into a ditch and roll it off. I have done both.

Used to work for a part store. We would deliver drums of oil to customers with an S-10 pick up. We would stand on the ground and roll them off the tailgate sideways onto 2 dismounted tires placed on the ground that we carried in the truck for this purpose. Not the smartest way but it worked and never had one split open.

Since you do not seem to have a drum clamp for a forklift or even a forklift itself, you will have to roll them down on a ramp or several wide boards like 2X10's, back the truck up to a hill to lessen the ramp height and incline and roll them off with some help from a friend or two or three. Do not attempt to do this on level ground! Dave

Same here. I use 2 2x6's with zero issue. Roll it out on it's side into the grass. Grass slows it down. Roll it into the garage and stand it up. One man job. I've heard rolling it onto the tire works just as well.
