You are being watched and record while you're driving.

The triple-digit speeding data comes from his 2018 Mustang's event data recorder, sometimes known as the black box, just like ones in airplanes.
Odds are, your car has one too, especially if it was made in the last four or five years.
“They record what’s going on in the vehicle, such as acceleration, deceleration, braking, speed, whether or not you’re wearing your seatbelt, pretty much anything that is electronically controlled is being captured as well,” explained AAA spokesperson Matt Nasworthy.

I rented 2017 and 2018 EB Mustangs and ran them at the drag strip 95 mph. I was a little worried the GPS or factory computer would rat me out, but never heard anything from rental company. Now if I would have crashed it at speed I'm sure they would have nailed me.

A buddy of mine worked at a place that had ODB2 Tattletales plugged into their trucks that sent data back to the "safety" guy that kept track of the idiot drivers. The system sends an email if the vehicle brakes hard, or corners hard, or goes over the speed limit. Just for shits and giggles, we pulled it out and put it into my hooptie, and went for a little spin. The safety guy kept getting email after email about my "bad" driving. I was very disappointed to learn that a 160 mph blast only got recorded s 120+.

Just wait until Law Enforcement or the insurance industry gets ahold of that data live streamed from every vehicle......
You will get ticket after ticket in the mail as your own vehicle "tattles" on you. That is IF you can even get or keep insurance.

This is the correct answer of where things are headed. I believe almost all cars since ~2013 have this black box capability. It will be promtoted as a safety feature to keep those pesky speeders in check and keep your insurance cost lower. What do you think that Progressive Snapshot program is? And many people blindly embrace this big brother technology...........

GM started the telematics / big brother thing 22 years ago.
It was quickly used by the FBI without warrants to spy in vehicles.
2002 whisteblowers got them nailed, and 2003 the courts "told" the FBI not to do it........which held no water

Since 2008....??
I believe that was the year the rest of the manufacturers were told to implement telematics.
So I would say your theory is coming to fruition. I know Ford fought it, but finally caved......

GM has been step in step with big brother for 22 years ......remember that.
Since 9/11 just remember people , all bets are off with regard to the 4th Amendment.

All digital communications are recorded.....all of them.

Maybe 15 yrs ago the company that developed the technology for the OE’s was selling rights to the scanner to retrieve the info after a crash. It was a 3 State deal that could have been a very lucrative venture being on retainer for insurance companies & ambulance chasers etc.

There were 2 problems with that scenario that stopped me from getting into that.

1st was a lawsuit that challenged the ownership of that data & I don’t know the outcome of that suit because.....

2nd was biohazard.... moving guts & brains to access the box kinda turned me off.

That data has been around since airbags.

Opportunity knocks.....need black box killer...
If memory serves......and I could be wrong....

I believe they've found a way to prevent it from being taken out by putting it in the airbag recorder system.

Unless I'm misremembering and thinking of OnStar snitching system

and this handy cell phone jammer for your ride.. keeps people around off their phones... sort of a force field..

i however have argued that it could cause a wreck ... or increase the odds not decrease ..
because if said person on cell phone talking comes into your force field.. and your jammer causes the loss of cell...
then the person refocuses all the attention on why the phone stopped working and less on the driving... and then causes them to run into you ..with a greater chance... since it would seem to increase the distracted driver scenario around you and your jammin device at a higher rate than the aggregate.

I've retrieved the data before. The high resolution data records 7 seconds before the "incident". Airbags DO NOT have to deploy to record an event. The ACU just has to see a certain level of impact. Most will record at least 2 events.

Steering wheel position, throttle position, brake, speed, RPM, seatbelt, passenger occupancy, and all of the G sensors are recorded.
I know it's been in some cars since 1990 but not as detailed. I have been subpoenaed to pull the data for some authorities or attorneys but every time there was a fatality.

crash a newer car at the track and if the manufacturer or insurance company wants to see what happened-they will in fact know when and where you were-and even what color socks you had on if you wear shorts and walk past a camera....

Makes sense, but I believe this is applicable only to vehicles with
blind spot monitoring, forward collision warning and lane departure warning.

I think they also have 360 degree in some vehicles also now.

Getting a car WITHOUT these spying....cough.."safety features" is optimal
Just use your own dash cam for your own protection....

Good information for the oblivious consumer to be mindful of......
