Ya know there's a transmission tech forum, right?

I'm running a 10.5" converter and no cooler, with a deep pan.

9 quarts did the trick.

I asked Hutch about trans fluid, and wound up going with his recommendation.

He told me to run a 50/50 mix of Type F and John Deere Hyguard.

He said "std viscosity", which is ~20 weight.

They also make a "low viscosity", about ~10 weight, but thats NOT what we want.

yeah, i posted it over there too, but you get more answers here. not always a good thing though, i know:-D.
so 50/50 seems to be the recurring theme, & i'm not sure i've heard that before, at least not that i remember. but i trust you guys, so there it is. thanks!

Hopefully someone that knows their shit comes along. But I'll just give my two cents for now. :)

I've always been told it swells the seals better and in real life experience it has slowed/stopped down some leakers of mine.

Then I've heard it has less friction inhibitors and that helps firm up your shifts.

A couple things I have noticed is color. My fluid is a very nice blood red ever since I started mixing. I've bought all differnt brands of dexron and never had such healthy color that lasted. The fluid seems to have more viscosity as well. Been doing this mix for 5 years or so with great results. My Dad always used to do it years ago to help a leaker, just to get by. lol
