ORB and AN Fitting ?

Is it completely necessary to use ORB fittings on the fuel system or can we use the regular AN flared end with an O Ring thrown over it to seal it? We have a lot of regular AN flared fittings and the much cheaper alternative would be to throw an O ring on those rather than buying all new fittings. Thanks!

Yes thats fine. I like to machine off the 37 degree flare though and even flow radius it.

I was reading that the bare aluminum will have corrosion issues if it isn't re-anodized... Ever had any problems like that? Thanks, Jake

alky on bare aluminum will oxidize quicker than if it did have a anodizing on it.

gas will also but it will take years of exposure.

cheapskate, the radiused fittings are not that much and you do not need them everywhere..
usually just on the main out of the tank.
putting the capture ring undercut on the face of the hex is easy with the lathe that you are suppose to have.

I have done the same thing. Sometimes you just can't find the correct fittings. I was looking for a -8 O-ring with a radiused inlet and a -10 O-ring outlet, did not need to be radiused on this end. Could not find it anywhere. Had a choice of buying a new fuel pump or filter, or simply use a -8 to -10 fitting with the end chopped off a bit and radiused with two O-rings, works just fine for this application.
