The driver of a souped-up Mustang that went out of control and killed two spectators during an illegal street race in Los Angeles has been sentenced to 12 years in state prison.

Forty-three-year-old Karen Balyan was sentenced Monday after pleading no contest last month to vehicular manslaughter and assault with a deadly weapon. He also acknowledged fleeing the scene of the Feb. 26 crash in Chatsworth.

Authorities say seconds after the race began, Balyan's car slammed into a curb and hit three people.

Twenty-six-year-old Eric Siguenza and 50-year-old Wilson Thomas Wong were killed. A third man was seriously injured.

The other driver, Israel Valenzuela, was sentenced to one year in jail for vehicular manslaughter.

A third man, Henry Gevorgyan, also was sentenced to a year in jail for vehicular manslaughter.

No victims.
Only volunteers.

This is so true...

Dead spectators volunteered to risk their lives by standing in a dangerous(and stupid) place = Price paid was loss of life

Drivers volunteered to risk their freedoms by racing with people standing in dangerous place = Price paid is loss of freedom for awhile

Seems this all went down accordingly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why is it that some refuse to realize that as adults, we make decisions that carry consequences?

The thing I don't understand about the law is this;

If a spectator can be cited for simply watching a street race, it's because he/she is personally responsible for placing himself at that location.

So then how is that person innocent and it's now everyone else's fault when shit goes bad and that spectator gets hurt?

The law gets to have its cake and eat it too.

Been that way for a while now. Citizens need to know that they can't be even partially connected with a consensual crime and not be in fear for their life/freedom.

The scales of justice are tilted to get people into prison these days.
