Difference in MSD 7531 & 7530T Box?

My question is in terms of functionality as applies to tuning on n20? I am fairly familiar with the 7531 Box, but what does or does not the 7530T box do relative to the 7531 Box? Thx.

IMHO, there is no reason to run the T box unless you are running Pro Stock. It is the only box allowed in PS.
The box will shut down for 24 hours if there is any type of interference in the crank trigger wires. The only way it can be reset is to wait the 24 hours or be at an NHRA event and a tech official will reset it.

The -31 box has data acquisition and the RevLimit/Slew Rate functions, whereas the T does not.

The -31 is THE box to run if you have no restrictions. If you are not allowed to run the -31 (NHRA SS, STK, T/S, etc) then I would run the 7535 box. It does not have data acq or the "dots", but does not have the TCD.

Hope this helps.

30 box won't data log, and that's enough for me. I had a weird pop in my car and could not figure it out for the life of me. It would pop a blue flame out one side, right at the shift. Never could figure it out, but if it was on a fast pass it would do it at the finish line as well. FINALLY went to a 31 box and turned on the data, and figured out the rev limited was off 400 rpm and would activate early every pass and at every shift.

Realized right then and there any monetary savings with the 30 box isn't worth it. The 31 is where it's at.

IMO the 7530T is only needed when a class specifically calls for it. Otherwise the 7531 is the king box for most applications.

Which btw, my boss has them on sale right now for $80 off, if anyone is in the market for them

I traded my 71 Camaro for a light weight 2450# race ready 2002 Camaro (Jim Yates old PS car, now runs NHRA TS) with a 638 CFE Heads & tunnel ram with 2 Steve Johnson foggers, that has a 7530T Box, and that is why I asked the question. The car has a RPM Performance Data Logger, so I feel certain the 7530T can download data. The Slew Rate (soft rev limiter aka "dots") is the main function I understand is not there with the 7530T vs. the 7531.

Thanks for the comments. Keep 'em coming...

If the 7530 box can download data, then please tell me how cause I sure can't figure it out. That's the only thing besides the traction control lockup I don't like about the 30t

Thx Stevie...yep, I know about the 7531 not being allowed for TS.

Hey I'm sorry about inferring that the 7530 could download...never had one, I can't say that. I meant that the car HAS an RPM Data Logger to download the critical information I need...ERPM, DRPM, FP, N20 Pressure, EGTs, etc.

Slightly off topic...but oh well...the car I bought has a 7530T, & for TS competition, a 7531 box is not allowed.

Wazzup Casey?

Hey Joey.

Here is the car I contracted to buy...picking it up next Sunday-Monday in Virginia...we wanted a lighter, safer, faster, lower maintenance car at a reasonable price. The '69 Camaro is enough work with 1 heavy car...don't need 2!

Ronnie,
Great to hear you were able to work that deal out...

One of the things I don't like about the 7530T is that it can lock out on you and set a rev limit. If it picks up in varation in signal it locks a 4000 RPM rev limit. the only way to reset is by an NHRA offical, or to leave the box powered up for 24 hours...

Thanks, SJ

nhra mandated traction control detection and that is how msd solved the issue, the idea is that if you triggered it you couldn't just reset it yourself between rounds or overnight.......

O.K., another question on this topic.

Can the 7530T Box utilize the MSD ICT (Individual Cylinder Timing) function like the 7531 Box can?

Again, the 2002 Camaro I am getting has a 7530T box, and one reason is that the 7531 Box because of the Slew Rate ("dots") function is not allowed by NHRA Top Sportsman...they consider it a traction aid. The 2202 Camaro also has EGTs vs. O2s, so the ICT would be useful to even out the holes, if necessary.

So to me it seems the 7530T can do everything the 7531 can, except the Slew Rate, and maybe the ICT.

Is this correct?

Thx Stevie...wanted to know if I needed to "swap" the 7531 box from the 71 for the 7530T in the 2002 Camaro.
