Does anyone make a blank cap for an msd distributor? I'm converting a distributor to read cam sensor only and going cnp. I have a small dia or a cap adapt to work with. I know Holley makes one for their distributor

I would think you can take this one apart, put the housing in a lathe, and cut that square area off and put a slip collar on it.

I had to put a slip collar on both versions I have for my SBC RR heads.

I have the billet version of this one which they have stopped selling after it cost me an engine. I was able to fix it to stop that from happening again. Really nice piece, just poorly designed in one area. :(

i saw that they stopped selling the billet version also.

i see they only have one version now. is this really the best option for EFI cam sync? or is a modified MSD pro billet unit better?

i kinda want a drop in cam sync dist., preferably with an adj. collar but the EFI connection one isn't quite drop in.

The drive tang for the oil pump is the same.

I just mentioned the smaller diameter shaft in case you want to buy a new bronze geaer so you don't buy a "normal" .500 gear only to have to send it back and get the right size. Been there done that.

While the version they sell isn't "pretty", it works just fine. The sensor in it is available at any auto parts store so in case you break it somehow you don't have to worry about finding another one. They really won't go bad, but when people install.pull and engine with the distributor installed it can hit the firewall and possibly break the sensor.

You may need to take it all apart and get the square mounting area turned in a lathe to make the entire body round and use an MSD adjustable slip collar to get it ready for your application.

GM made that square mounting setup so they could just drop the thing in an engine and not worry about getting it lined-up correctly, the body could not turn. We need to rotate the body to get the pickup where we need it in relation to TDC.

Yes!

It is cheaper since you already own it.

Not as nice because you have a magnetic pickup instead of a hall effect, but if you aren't using the cap anymore with high voltage up there, shouldn't be an issue, plus you have a cap sitting there with terminals pointing-up and nothing connected to them, will have people asking questions........... ;)

It will certainly work though!

EFI Connection only sells the regular GM unit now, they don't have the billet version anymore. They had a special cover made for it (unless GM actually used it on something) so it is a nice clean install. I think the only downside is setting the phasing of the shutter wheel. GM never intended that unit to be able to move, the hold-down on it is special. I had to take mine apart and put it on a lathe to remove their hold down area and make it circular so I could use a normal distributor hold down clamp and be able to spin it to where it needed to be.

Not sure what others have gone-through. I also have raised-runner heads so I would have had to modify it for a slip collar no matter what.
