Can you use Acetone to clean out a vacuum pump?
same way as spraying brake cleaner in there while engine is running ?

Tony..
I would personal ask whoever makes your pump.....Different companies use different materials to construct there vanes & seals...
Those pumps are not cheap....Brakekleen is......;)
good question though.........let us know if you call

This ^^^^ different types of pumps have different needs.

Some just need a shot of brakleen and run'em dry like that, try that on others and you will need a new pump in short order, others need a teaspoon of lube to lube and seal the vanes.

Thanks Tony for the feedback......All my brake Clean is (NON CHLORINATED) brake clean. CAREFUL breathing in the CHLORINATED, bad stuff.
Could be deadly if its used the wrong way......i.e......Guys who weld aluminum will use brake cleaner instead of Acetone, (Not good). When they use the CHLORINATED stuff and then heat the Aluminum ............(toxic fumes big time)

To clean
the oil from the Pump, remove the hose from the intake side of the Pump and spray nonflammable (environmentally safe) solvent into
the intake tube with the engine running. Mind the Pump exhaust when doing this! You should make this part of your usual race car
maintenance.

I guess I should do this since Ive never cleaned it. Maybe thats why it doesnt make the shhhhh noise anymore when I turn the engine off.

Be careful when using Chlorinated on hot surfaces. Did it for years until I read an article that says chlorinated brake cleaner(or any chlorinated product for that matter) will emit phosgene gas at certain temps. You can google it or I think there is also also a post in the TOBT forum
