i have a 434 sbc with afr 227's flat top ross two valve relief pistons with 12 to 1 compression .108 race gas . super victor jr intake ,850 bg carb, it has a solid roller (don't know specs) .it has comp roller lifters , 1.5 rockers,h beam rods, 4340 crank , 1 3/4" long tube headers with bullets attached to collector, pwrglide w/ptc 8" 5000 stall, bte trans brake .msd 6al billet dist, blaster coil ,two step at 3600 rpm .in a 91 camaro 3200 lbs stock suspension with 9" w/4.56 and 29.5x10.5 mt slick ,lwr control arms and jegs short torque arm, front stock suspension was running 6.80 to 7.0 with 60' in the 1.46-1.56 but stop pulling at 5800 thats where i shifted .i believe it should run 6.20 on motor might shoot a small shot of n20 i.ve been running the 7.0 but if it will go in the 6.20 i'll shoot n20 and run 6.0 .on 150 shot it will go 6.50 but just don't pull on top end need a cam tore down for rebuild thanks

what about some help on a cam looking at a solid roller 270 280 .630 .630 is what my engine builder rec i had a 260 270 .630 .630 but wouldn't pull past 5800 but i had a busted piston to first ring gland and head gasket blowed in both middle cyl deck was low. i want to use a comp cca-12-821-14 4-7 swap 279 286 .679 .645 using 1.5 could use 1.6 to get more lift also having heads milled to bump comp was 11.7 going for 12.5 to 13.5 and mild ported may have to cut pistons to acc lift rebuilding now so i need advice thanks

Forget the 4-7 swap and the money you save put it into the head porting. You'll be way ahead in power gains for the money spent.

Blessings.........Ron.

I think your headers are too small and are choking the engine. I'd step up to 1-7/8" minimum and even a 1-7/8" to 2.0" step header. Those AFR 227's should flow plenty even if not ported but if you do have them ported, all the more need for the bigger headers.

The bigger headers will help you that's for sure. The cam rec from Shafiroff seems plenty big.

Both cams you listed previously will pull well past the 5800 rpm point you indicated the engine fell off. I'm wondering if your valve springs are/were shot or not the correct springs for the roller cam. What type of roller do you have: solid or hydraulic? I like the duration numbers of either of the two cams listed but would add some more lift .650-.670 range. LSA 108 -109 deg

What type of racing are you exactly going to do with this thing? Mostly 1/8 mile or 1/4 mile? Do you plan to run it n/a all the time and just want to spray it occasionally?

duration at .50 running a solid roller was running 6.70's to 7.0 running the heads up 7.0 and bracket racing. if it would run aroung 6.30's would spay it with around 125-200 to run the 6.0 heads up class . its not a shafiroff motor was a combonation that was in my car when i bought it. the old cam was a custom grind from 8 years ago 260 270 .630 .630 w/1.5 i know this combo with the right cam should go 6.20-6.50 on motor also race 1/8 mile only. the nearest 1/4 is memphis or steele about 3 to 4 hours away

If you do plan on spraying it, keep the load light say around 200 no more than 250 because of the short compression height of the pistons. When picking a cam, talk with your engine builder. Also, I'm wondering if you may need to drop your rear gear some say to a 4:88 or so.

i had though about going 4.88 i'll just find another chunk and have it set up or borrrow one. just have to do one thing at a time .i have my engine at the machine shop having heads ported and rebuilt with the deck high check and being straightend and the balance checked with replacement piston. rods and bolts tested for streach and valve clearence checked so i figure out about lift clearence on a cam .also having heads shaved to bump compression i was running 28x10.5 tire so it was probly ok but on a 29.5x10.5 i believe 4.88 wil be right with a pwr glide thanks for the help

TOSS your current rod bolts. Get you some new ones!! As you had indicated, this engine was already in the car whe you bought it. If you don't know the engine's full history, get new rod bolts. CHEAP INSURANCE, trust me. I replace mine every four years.
