Will a Chevy 990 head support 650HP?

I did a search on here and didn't find anything about this so I thought I'd ask here.

I was wondering if a stock, unported BB Chevy 990 head will support 650HP with the 2.19 intake? The engine would be a 454(not sure on over bore), 4.00 stroke, 6.135 rod and 12.5-13.0:1.

I know there are much better heads, but I can get these heads cheap and I'm told they flow well over 300cfm unported. I'm just trying to put something together with the spare 454 parts I have and these heads are available to me.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Thanks for the reply's!

So they will need to have the 2.25 intake to make 650HP?

I can't find the cam card, but the cam I currently have is a Crane solid roller with .660"/.680" lift. I don't mind buying another one to get to the 650 goal, but that's what I have now.

Here is my cam, that I used back in the day with 990 heads, Crower roller X7270 int op @ 19 cl @51 exh op @ 64 cl @ 16 250* int dur 260 exh dur int lobe .392 exh lobe .362. It was killer in my heavy ass Chevelle.

Maybe some experts could give you a better grind. I hope this helps but 650 out of 990 heads can be done.

Match your cam to the 990's they are the rect port head right ? they will make your HP goal of 625... 2.19 intake will support a 454 ci and 6500 rpm bigger or higher rpm you may need bigger valve ......... get a cam matched to heads flow rate and yes some minor bowl work is all you need IMO

Have the 990's been ported already? If not are you planning on porting them yourself?
Are they fresh or are you going through them?
Those heads can easily meet your needs, I would just look at whats out there in a used aluminum head before I sank a ton of money in the 990's
That barge is heavy enough already!!!
of course if the 990's are ready to rock and just need a little cleanup...you are there.

When you get to that point, let me know what length pushrods you need. I ordered a couple of wrong sets of manley .080 wall deals. Maybe you can use a set. I also have aluminum pulleys for a long water pump if you need them

You almost ready to get that thing going down the track?

red barn, I got the valve train back from the old 468 out of the Nova I had. And of course I'm not going to port them myself, lol. I don't want to port them anyway. This is another one of my "budget" engines. Only this time it's a Chevy, lol. And as far as more weight, I've got 10lbs. of Bam Bam to offset that :)

The small block and trans are ready, and I just finished up the 12 bolt. I don't know about ready, but it should all be in one piece in about a month. Still need to wire it and get some fuel system pieces.
