Spent a lot of time working on the car this weekend, but not a lot to show for it. Its been a endless cycle of welding cleaning and painting all the brackets that i made or tacked together.

The intercooler is finish welded and in the car, steering box is in for good along with the original pitman arm from the power box and the cherokee intermediate shaft. fuel pressure regulator is mounted. Ive been going back and forth between working on the manual brake conversion/linelock mounting, and then fiddling in the trunk trying to find a good place for the battery box. It looks like i'll have to build a little subframe that sits down in the spare tire well. If anybody has pictures using the summit box (which seems bigger than it needs to be) i'd love to see them.

Oh, and the Eagle 408 rotating assembly should be here tomorrow or tuesday, but we're waiting for the ARP main studs to show up before they start machine work on the block. those studs are expensive. It seems like you put LSx in front of anything and the price jumps 100$.

I'm still following along. This is still one of the best "Reasonable builds" on the forums. I wish I had a shop with a TV and a couch. lol. To quote a post from a previous page, this thread makes me and my build feel like a loser.

What size intercooler did you end up using?

CX Racing
Core Size: 24"x13"x3.5"
Overall Height: 20.5"
Two 2.5" Inlets, One 3" Center Outlet

Sorry if you cover this before but what brand engine mounts and headers are you using? Cool ride.
UMI mounts (dont waste your money) and cheap ebay headers. The details are in previous pages.

Thanks! The compliments from you guys really mean alot. THis truly is a basic street car build. I really only use the car to run errands on the weekend or get ice cream at night haha. Matter of fact, i cant really afford the new 408 engine so now i work 2 nights a week for the machine shop for a while. No big sponsors or deep pockets here :smt023

I'm in a real funny place right now with mine. I am stuck on whether or not to remove the AC box. I know it would open up a world of space and room to mount my Holley Dominator and breathers just as you suggested. The problem is, I really want heat and defrost.

FYI, TRcustomParts (I think that's the name) sell a really cool little piece that wraps the cowl ledge all the way over after removing the AC box to complete the rubber seal around. It's only like $60 and real easy to install.

Also, Are you mounting the Dominator inside or outside on the Delete panel?

I'm of the opinion that keeping AC and heat is the line between having a fun street car you can enjoy with the family in any weather versus it being only useable in nice weather or having to compromise on comfort. Here in North Florida, its hot and humid as hell in the summer and we get frequent days of air temps in the low 30's or high 20's at night. I know you northern guys are just warming up at that point but with my wife and our almost 2 and almost 5 year old boys in the back seat, I can find somewhere else to mount a computer! HAHA

Keep up the killer build, your doing a wonderful job.

The way i figure, If i have to use heat and defrost, I probably shouldnt be driving the car anyway.

I would like to mount the Dominator on the Engine side of the panel to simplify harness routing, but i wont make that decision until i get the harness laid out in the car. If i have too much extra, then ill mount it inside.

Sunday and yesterday I was amble to get the passenger side turbo clocked correctly to get the feed on top and the drain on the bottom. The Holley 302-1 pan showed up. Nice piece. I almost feel bad about drilling holes in it for drain bungs. The pipes from the headers to the turbos got finish welded and painted, and the turbos are hung in the car permanently with gaskets. The wastegates aren't perfectly symmetrical when looking at the front of the car, but I would prefer to have it easy to work on rather than fight myself all the time. Plus when the hood is closed you will never know haha. I'm really at the point where im waiting on the engine to come back so i can finalize a few things like coil mounting. Im thinking they will be mounted on the top of the frame on either side, and plug wires will run along the block and come up from underneath.

I don't think you can run the Dominator on the plate without wrapping the shit out of the harness. Below is a picture of my Holley LS harness in place on the motor. You can see where it splits and goes into the loomed harness. That runs all the way down below the heater box into the original hold where the factory computer came through. After it comes through the whole there's enough to make it about as far over as the radio in the dash. One thing you could do which would be cool is to run the harness into the delete plate with a grommet around it. Secure it to underside of the dash and than bring it back out right where it will plug into the dominator box through another grommet. That would be pretty slick and it would allow you to mount the relays and fuses on the inside of the car.

any updates?
unfortunately no. I've been busy working on other things while the block was getting machined. Machine work is all done now, rotating assembly is balanced. I just need to assemble it. I don't see that happening until the end of this month at the earliest.

A nice location for the coils that ive seen used is behind the oil pan crossmember, right on the back of the crossmember. You just fab a nice mount for the coils and tack or attach it there your preffered way and its out of sight. The wires come from underneat on each side so its clean and unobstrusive. Some just built one large mount while ive seen two smaller ones one on each side.

Also, another option is right where the engine supports are, like on the plates you have there, close to the plugs, out of sight.

Lead.

Hope. This works

It sucks to have to work to afford such toys, I have been trying to get my car ready for spring but cannot seem to find time, so I can sympathize. Your car is badass, been following since the start trying to get ideas, I am working on an 85 cutlass which is getting a 5.3. I am just down he road from you in Buffalo btw.

327olds, tell me about trying to find time. I cant for the life of me find two days back to back to simply pull the old and bolt in the new motor. At least if it were in there, I could pick away at the details until it were running! :(

I know from your build thred that you have children, I can't find a spare second now and I dont have kids, I cant imagine your task with kids

Badass! I have a Cutlass, and this thread has just about ruined me! :p lol
