Absolutely, and for a street car, I would fit 2 of them in there!!!
5500 generates a lot of heat, and you know you will be driving it like a maniac!!!!

I've heard positive things about the The Tru Cool 40k but no personal experience with it and a 5500 stall.

 

I have a 5000lb Bronco with a converter that goes 5000ish. I run 2 of the 70266 B&M super coolers which are just stacked plate Long coolers. 6an lines and coolers are mounted in front of rad.

Driving on the road and beating on it the trans will get to 160-170 is all i can get it to on the road.Hydraulic oil for fluid.

Using trans brake a lot is the only way i can get temp up over the 160-170 normal temps.

I run 3 coolers and a deep pan on mine. It usually won't get over 160*. Hottest I ever seen was 190.

 

This is the large tru-cool cooler and the lines are also routed thru the radiator cooler which I recommend. My car is a turbo so it has to endure sitting on the transbrake and this setup has been fine for 13 years.

Tru cool is on my Silverado that pull the car with . Definitely a big improvement over the stock. I'd either go with Tru cool, a B&M stacked plate design or if you can fit one in, I'd get one with a fan on it if it'll fit somewhere good and you can wire it up easily for what you're doing
