its asked every day, here is a chart from superwinch. im sure other brands have similar pull ratings.

1800# winch will pull 7500 pounds rolling. i find it very informative.

Be careful getting a low power unit. If you blow out a tire, snap an axle, etc... you're not gonna be pulling the same load anymore...

 

I wonder if that considers ramp angles?

 

Looks like it, there is a slope factor on the left hand column.
I have a 1800lbs unit now and it struggles with my 2300lbs car unless I use the pulley block. Just upgraded to a 3500lb but haven't tried it yet.

ours is 1800 lb rolling have no problems with a 3000 lb car but we do have long ramps

 

dont forget that less cable on the spool decreases the gear ratio... 100' of cable greatly reduces the pulling capacity when it is not all pulled out.

 

bought the 5000 lb model. i figure if it won't roll then i'll drag it in the trailer.
