Yup, even as late as 2019 an early Olds based DRCE won the 2019 pro stock championship with Erica Enders driving. the DRCE gen 1, 2 3 &4 are still winning, 38 years after Olds designed it and was only available through Olds. first offered in 1983, the DRCE has won more races than any other Pro Stock engine in history..and continues in to 2021

Gumsprocket I dug the years GM actually had inter-division development programs. Who could forget the Indy Buicks or the IMSA Olds’ or the individual head designs each of the competing NASCAR teams brought like the Buick and Pontiac head for the “corporate” 358 block.

Race fans like me who are interested in more than the drivers eye color, favorite food and music playlist really enjoyed the variety. The DRCE was no different.

Nowadays though Pro Stock is apparently more loyal to the racers wishes to keep their secret DRCE engine programs intact than to make the class more appealing by bringing it back to its roots.

I just found out that Pro Stock very nearly was going to go to a twin turbo small block format and instead they just stuck with what they had and put fuel injection on top.

Any wonder why fans care less and less about Pro Stock anymore?

Maybe you’re too young and wet behind the ears to remember when Pro Stocks were running the stands were overflowing?

Who told you that, Henry? I believe you but I don't believe whoever told you knows what they're talking about. The only Turbo combination that EVER competed in NHRA P/S was Ingersoll's T-Type Buick Regal - which ironically was more like the showroom version than anything that was racing at the time - or since. But when it came within about 3 feet of trouncing Glidden's mountain-motor Thunderbird the sanctioning bodies, likely with no small amount of bitching from the Gliddens, took notice and nixed it.

The lack of a variety of engine combinations aren't responsible for the lack of fan enthusiasm for Pro Stock. Cost...lack of sponsors....they're all Camaros except the Cuadras....and the biggest problem is that fans come to national events for the excitement of the fuel cars. Run a 16-car field of Pro Stocks at a regional track as the premier class, put up money on a par with some of the big no-prep races and watch the stands (and the field) fill - and stay filled. Few people at an NHRA event get spooled up over a 210mph Camaro after they just watched John Force's Camaro run over 330. You gotta give 'em their own day in the sun.

NHRA aproves some ford blocks,,so why aint you guys runnung Ford? shyt...Ford gave up long ago because Glidden took he secrets to his grave.

Ford block part #M-6010-A500 #M06010-JC50 #m-6010-JC51 three block and you cant build even one to be competitive? just thro some 73 cleveland stock heads on it,,should make 1200 hp
That block is 23 years old and is iron. NHRA has not approved the C and C Motorsports aluminum block. But they have no problem approving the DCRE aluminum Chevy that pretends to be an Olds.
