Hey guysm looking for opinions on the quietest muffler for a street strip car. Motor is a 408 sbc, 12.5:1, 680 lift solid roller, kooks headers 2 inch primaries, 3 1/2 collectors. Mostly a nitrous car. Looking for something with the least amount of back pressure but super quiet. I'll probably run the exhaust back to the axle so that will help a little. Are chambered mufflers good for nitrous cars? Any help appreciated. Thanks guys

I like being able to hear myself think when I'm working on it. Lol. It sounds a lot faster than it is with open headers
Mine too!! My 77 Nova with the LS motor sounds like a 10 second car with open headers, so I put some generic muffler shop turbo mufflers on the car that I had layig around my shop. They dump about 2 feet before the rear axle, it's really quiet, but sounds awesome when you put your foot in it. No cop will ever bother me being that quiet. I like quiet cars more and more all the time, open headers were awesome when I was in high school, but now I actually like to BS with the person riding shotgun when cruising the car. I guess I'm just getting old!!:p

Any aftermarket muffler you get, is going to drone.. Been there done that..

If you want quiet here is what I did.. I ran a Dr. Gas X-pipe with 2 straight thru glass packs in place of the cats.. And the STOCK cat-back..

The car was quieter than when stock.. And with only the slight whine of my Kenne-Bell screw supercharger.. It almost sounded like an electric car..

BTW.. Like that the car made 486 ft lbs of tq at only 2600 rpms.. And 400 rwhp at 5200 rpms (stock cam).. With 3.55 gears and a 2.95 first gear T5.. It ran 11.6's at 120 on BFG 16 inch drag radials..

The only problem with that setup was.. With that much lowend torque.. And a quiet exhaust that doesn't attract attention.. It makes you frequently step into the blower, and you fuel milage will suffer ;) ..

After trying all sorts of mufflers for the street, what I found works best is using dynomax bullets after the headers and an oval as far back as possible. For the ovals, I used 3" hogged out dynomax turbos. The car was extremely quiet and still ran deep into the 9's. I think spintechs would be a better choice for the ovals. The bullets seem to knock out the high tones while the ovals knock out the low tones

ive found out that dyno max super turbos are the quietest around. i dislike loud cars that are driven on the street, so much that i write tickets to the owners for loud mufflers. the 3 inch inside and out are the ones. they are mush larger than application specific though. r. booker mdpd

Just curious, do you extend the same courtesy to those that prefer their Harley with no mufflers at all? Certainly a hell of a lot louder, and way more annoying and obnoxious, than a car with loud mufflers.

I thought abou tquiet exhaust and gave up.. 3 1/2 bullits with an x pipe dumped at the rear end... If they don't get me for exhaust they will for the chute... It is always something..

Lucky me th emotor is out now and it is on trailer duty... I like magnaflows bettdr than anything for a more mello exhaust.

DynoMax Ultra flow round mufflers. There is a guy running the 6.0 index class in an orange Mustang with these and it is the quietest car in the class, can't even hear him over the other cars. As for the cop, that's some bullshit man. It's one thing if a guy is out showing his ass late at night or if he is continuously riding up and down the same street in the same neighborhood bothering everyone there. If you're out riding in your car, how long does anyone actually hear it as you ride by? Five seconds? 10 seconds? Wow, such a bother.

Why are there so many dumb fucks that just don't get it? Loud street cars only damage the future of motorsports. Inbred mullethead cocksuckers who don’t care about anyone but themselves and their asshole mullethead friends who think they are impressed. If you don’t get it, grow up, then you’ll get it.

Dynomax Ultraflow welded mufflers. It can't get much quieter than them. I have them on my car now and you can hear the solid roller valvetrain noise over the exhaust wih a 14-1 454sbf
