powerglide clutches.

I have an all aftermarket powerglide rated around 1500 hp behind something at around 600, so I would think overpowering the trans is no issue...
The issue is after not many runs [say 10} with some just driving around a few miles at most.. I was being a little paranoid about a brand new trans having some debris in the pan, more than I thought should be. Upon disassembly the box in general was perfect EXCEPT some burning on some of the High gear steels. Note not all the steels are burned ,, about half are..

My question is what are the possible causes of this problem please? Thanks in advance

Ok thanks guys, there are 7 clutches in the pack of the failed trans, and I think that you are both onto it,,, I contacted coan in regards to my other transmission one that they built, and They gave me a clearance value of 0.080'' for their 8 pack clutch... So, as these two transmissions are near identical I am thinking of converting my failed 7 pack to the same as my good 8 pack Coan transmission (COA-11128A-180-REID1). and set the clearance at 0.080" as it is the good trans... Sound Good? I cannot give at this point a clearance value for the failed trans at this point, I will have to see if I can obtain that info.. But suffice to say that it was a lot less than the coan trans, in which the clutch pack was still in immaculate condition... I will also have to ask in regards to system line pressure ,,, what should I be expecting to see please?
Mr hipster,,Then there's the old servo/band/wtf thing.<< what are you meaning regarding this comment please?
Thanks for the help guys

Once I installed the Sonnax kit my band problems went away.

This is what I put in mine when I re-built it. Excellent piece.

At your HP level you do not need more than 5 clutches in high gear. My car is 3140 lbs and runs 10.0. My glide has 5 high gear clutches and 2 reverse. It is very reliable.
I built mine with only 5 clutches and it I run 8.70's @3130lbs. I have 16 passes on it and so far so good. 1.23 60'

Thank you all for your input,,, I have spoken with the trans man.. It has become very clear that this trans has been set up with insufficient clearance. The line pressure I have not checked, and I have never done this but from what I see it is checked at the servo cover, Is that all? or are there other checking ports? with some of the research I have been doing seems the sonnax servo works better than most and if this + proper clearance is the solution I would be delighted

UPDATE ,,, got this thing back together, the second trans that is.... Reid case, and it has an allen head plug id about the middle of the case and this has no pressure showing on the gauge... The car has both forward gears and reverse, while on jack stands.. am I doing something wrong?
