Are we still on SA-2015 or do I now need a SA-2020 date ?

If I need anew helmet, I guess now would be the time ? Mrs. Santa asking ;)

Sounds like I may need a new helmet next year - mine's SA2000. Who all makes helmets in the USA?

I'm also going to need a helmet for when I get racing next year. Was waiting until the SNELL 2020 standards take place. Do all helmet manufacturers have 2020 helmets released at different times throughout the year or do they all have them released by a certain date per SNELL? Thanks for any info

Snell SA2020 helmets cannot be released till October 1, 2020. The Snell M2020 have already been released but an M series helmet is NOT an SA series helmet. SA series helmets have been impact tested repeatedly on the sides for like against a roll cage or side of your car. They are for racing. They also have Nomex liners and flame resistant chin straps as well as threaded inserts for a frontal head and neck restraint. The Snell SA2015 also meet the same standards.
If anyone is looking for an SA2015 helmet I have some brand new options from Bell in stock including two Revo Carbon helmets in large, as well as a Revo XL, 2 Small Revos and 2 XS Revos, and a large white Rift. Check out my website for the helmets we sell or hit me up with any tech questions.

AGAIN, that is completely wrong, and they should be fired!!!
I wear a SA2010, and I will be wearing it this season!!!
I know what the rules are, we just got a new helmet for a buddy!!!

It has been 12 years as long as I can remember!!!

The NHRA rule book states that helmets with a 2015 certification don't expire until January 1st of 2027.
2020 certified helmets will expire 2032.
Aug 22, 2019

The NHRA rule book states that the 2005 certification doesn’t expire until January 1, 2017, and the 2010 certification expires on the same day five years later (2022). The certification name causes further confusion when it comes time to purchase the helmet, according to Patrick Utt at RaceQuip, who says the helmets aren’t even available until October 1st of the release year.

I saw that video, it was scary for sure! Subframe connectors going in this winter, as well as axles and c-clip eliminators, driveshaft, front disc brakes, control arms, and shocks. Roll bar will be either this winter or next depending on how things go.

Appears ET has an effect on the date allowed. We're 4's in the 1/8 in a door car, had three different track tech inspectors the last two months all tell me my 2010 was done this month and the chassis cert guy say the same thing as well.

I just ordered a 2015 accordingly. ?‍♂

If you feel you want one, I can’t say it’s a bad idea. But it’s definitely 12 years

The 2020 model year cars and trucks are on dealer lots, so where are the 2020 helmets?
Unlike the auto industry, the Snell Memorial Foundation sets a strict calendar for the testing, manufacture, and rollout of helmets certified to each 5-year SA standard. Snell SA-rated helmets are NEVER available before the year of the SA standard. To ensure a level playing field, Snell typically does not allow manufacturers to sell the new helmets until the fall of the year of the SA standard. SA2020 is no exception.

Is anyone making SA2020 helmets yet?
The final Snell SA2020 standard has been published, and manufacturers began submitting their 2020 helmets for testing in the summer of 2019. But Snell will not even release the SA2020 decals to manufacturers until April 2020. Anyone claiming to have Snell SA2020 helmets for sale prior to April 2020 is committing fraud!

When can I buy an SA2020 helmet?
Snell will not allow manufacturers to advertise or sell their SA2020 approved helmets until October 1, 2020
. If you need a new SA-rated helmet for the 2020 racing season, you will need to buy an SA2015 helmet.

.So you just got screwed out of 5 years use, which was answered 27 posts ago.

I simply went by three different tech inspectors input, from the three tracks I typically run at.

Sucks it seems I wasted money, but arguing with tech usually doesn't gain you much right or wrong.

Definitely never argue with them.
I learned that the hard way. I had a project car, every panel a different color, it was a work in progress.
I rubbed the tech guy the wrong way, and he went out of his way to fail me every chance he got.
He did not want a patched together car on HIS track for what ever reason and gave me fits until I finally got every little thing perfect, then I never heard from him again, with a still ugly car.

I was just saying you were correct, and they stole your money!!!
12 years in stead of 10 years is one of the FEW thing SFI & NHRA do to actually not piss away our dough!!!
As Sammy's post shows they could have done very easily!!!

His new 15 is good until 27, so he will get 7 years instead of 12 for his money.
Like I said, they screwed him over, he did what he was told.
I would return the frigging thing, bring the NHRA, IHRA & SFI rules with and respectfully tell them they were 100% wrong and screwing racers over with their lack of knowledge

Had I not bought from a small time shop, I would. Hate to be difficult on small time guy who cut me a good deal.

Even at that though, two carbon helmets aren't cheap to have when one would have sufficed another year or two to have bumped me into the 2020's and gotten me a full 10-12 again.
