What are you carbed naturally aspirated LS guys ending up with on your ignition timing? I know every engine is different but after a few passes it seems like mine doesn’t like much timing and I’m trying to figure out if it really doesn’t like timing or I’ve got some other issue. It is a 440 with 14.25:1 compression and a LLSR, TEA TFS 245 heads, ported Super Victor and Dominator carb. I’ve only got a handful of runs but it seems like 28-30 degrees is where it does the best. Does that seem too low?

I have mine set at 32°. I've set it as high as 36°, but did not see any improvement. Some guys say they have seen improvements by retarding the timing some after 5000rpm, but I have not tried that.

Are you utilizing the MAP feature or not? If not, double check that the graph for the MAP is zeroed out, and remember to save any changes. After I make changes and save it, I still always exit the program, and then open it back up while still connected to the MSD box and verify that the changes took.

No MAP sensor. I am using Daytona Smart Spark and yes it zeroed. I basically follow the same procedures you do of saving and reconnecting to verify.

It’s interesting you mention that about pulling timing with rpm because I was wondering if that is what mine is going to like. It is making good mph (123 in 1/8th), but it’s 60ft is terrible right now. I thought about adding some timing down low to see if it wakes up.

People have told me I was wrong, they said my engine has issues. I run 38. The only motor I have hurt was from a huge wheelstand. My car has been 1.23 60ft, The first 6.0 ran 6.24, 6.2 went 5.97. The current 6.0 has been 5.93 with a bad 1.29 60. It has been 6.02 2nd time out this year with about 90 degrees and 96% humidity. 38 degrees timing. I do pull a degree after 5-5500. thinking of trying 2 degrees. Its just so hot out right now, I don't care to do much testing.

If any hi compression TFS245 headed setup wants more than 27-28*'s timing I would be surprised.
Thanks

~13:1 LS3 stock short, unported (decked .075) stock heads, 237/250 112+4 cam, stock LS3 manifold, made best power at 26* on E85. Tried 30* and everything in between but the motor just wanted 26. Smoothing at 0 30* made similar power but the pull was more jagged so we left it at 26. Thinking about trying a hotter plug, running BR7EF gapped to .026, but it is a hillclimb/track car and wanted to run on the colder side.

I have his first 6.0 cam ..he swapped cams on the 6.2 and uses that same cam on the new 6.0..the 6.0 has more compression now..when he went 6.24 with the old cam and motor he was around 10.5-1 comp..he also cleaned up the heads some if i remember correct..think hes like 12-1 comp now..i know he runs less timing because he broke a piston around the summer time when he went to the 6.0 setup
