As long as its a tall deck..

 

I was going to build a LS2 402 but I bought the heads (Mast) and everyone has me thinking about spending the money and doing it once and be done with bigger cubic inches.

I have been thinking LSX block 440 or 454. This will see a LOT of nitrous. Is one considered better for a race set up other then the extra ci of the 454?

if "a lot" of nitrous means a 300 shot or more than do what shadys281 said and get a tall deck but from me, get a 440 the 14 cubes can be made up with a slightly bigger jet

 

Was thinking 300-400 so I will look into a tall deck.

 

What size heads? Make sure they are for the larger bore


If I had to chose I'd go 440 over 454

 

440 will keep a bit more meat in the piston

just my opinion

 

i would build a 434 if it is a short deck. no reason to bore it out to 4.185 if it is nitrous motor. i would rather keep some meat in the bore.

 

still plenty of meat in the bore at 4.185-4.175.... going long stroke in the short deck will make the piston design difficult

 

I have been looking at the tall beck 479" all day. I just dont want to get into something I will have a lot more cost than expected. If I stay with a short deck I think I have settled on a high comp 440. But man a long deck 479" is soooooo inviting. I could still have some good fun without spraying it with the 479 if I wanted to.

 

I'm doing a 488" that should be done in a couple weeks and It'll see around a 300 shot.. If I was gonna spray much more then that I wouldn't of used the 4.5" crank..

 

For a newb whats the benefit of a tall deck for n20?

 

Better piston with longer stroke options

 

440 gets my vote

 

A 440 std deck motor will be fine no need to go talk deck

 

Bryan at LME talked me into a 445". 4.100" crank, 6.125" rods and 4.155" pistons.

 

My engine I ran the last 2 years was a 4.185" bore 4" stroke that we sprayed twin .082 to .088 jets on. Never had a issue with the piston or headgaskets.
