Increasing load range on tires E to F

My new Sundowner toyhauler came with ST235/80/16 E tires.

I had two blow outs( severe tread separation) on the first trip which was less than 150 mile round trip. I was far from being loaded to capacity and all tires were inflated to 80 psi . I also found out that the tire date codes show the tires were 3 years old when I rolled off the lot.

I will be replacing all of the tires, any reason not to upgrade to load range F?

look into Boarwheel.com A bit pricey. But plenty of piece of mine when you're hammering down the highway. Lots of info videos. Good Luck !

That is a scary deal, glad every thing is all right, it could have caused an accident.
I would not hesitate to replace the load E's.
I would guess it was more speed & age than load rating. Or even a bad batch, which would piss me off royally!!
IIRC when I was checking into those monster Hercules tires, the difference between E & F is only ~300 lbs??
Load E's are good for over 21,000 I believe.
That's a lot of weight and you said you weren't even close to max??

Good luck, race safe!!

don't forget that ST rated tires are speed rated at 65mph, it is very easy to exceed that just running with traffic. we have reduced our blowouts to an acceptable level by setting the cruise just under 65.

The tires that are on the trailer are an L speed rating, good to 75 mph. Fastest I got was around 72. It was a short trip just out of town.

The trailer is rated for roughly 6000 lbs of cargo. I was around half of that. I haul a Suzuki samurai. I have scaled my old trailer loaded and know what all of my cargo weight is going down the road.

Im hoping it just a combination of old tires, a bad batch, and maybe a shitty brand. They are all getting replaced for sure, just not sure If I will stay with load range E or move up to the F.

we have been looking for the higher speed rated tires as we need to replace the ones we have now but I still try to keep the speed down as they are all import tires but it is nice to know you can run faster if needed. when we got our trailer it had D rated on it and we moved to E right away but we are still on 15's. I would like to move to 16's but the cost is a bit much when you have to add the new wheels and we like to have 2 spares.

Good thinking, I always bring 2 spares. I actually have 7 of the cool aluminum wheels & 2 steel wheels.
I also bring 2 spares for the truck. We invest way too much dough on fuel, food & incidentals to risk getting 95% of the way to an event
and miss it sitting on the side of the road. Or losing a days pay breaking down on the way home.

I was skeptical at first. Put them next to the Goodyear Endurance and it was a hard decision. So far I am happy. They don't have the typical ST tire bulge when sitting on the ground. They also make the trailer sit about 1" higher because of it. They are also stamped "regroovable so they have a lot of rubber on the tread side.

We grew tired of our trailer tires having tread separations on 2year old or less tires, even when the tread looked virtually brand new. Got rid of our ST trailer tires and now only use LT 235/85/16 E rated tires, have had excellent service out of them, even got a mileage warrantee with them(try getting that on a trailer tire).
