Curious if these trucks are reliable or not, as a dedicated tow vehicle.

I’d say very similar reliability as the dually’s were of that era. I drove the piss out of an 05 at work for five years and the only time it was ever in the shop was for the ol 2-7 wiring harness , Brakes and tires. Pulled 7k-11k trailers probably 30% of the 150k miles that I drove it. My personal rating of those trucks would be a 4.9 but 100 more hp and foot lbs would have been nice when towing in the wind.

2002 DMax dually 15000lb boat 100K miles 1 injector, and anual rear brakes, some of which was salt water issues. Also the driver seat cover was starting to rip from getting in, and out.:)
My 90s 1 ton 454 passed everything but gas stations.

Thats a kodiak c4500 gm . we have a box van similar, is hard to get parts for up north here, ours runs but needs abs computer, works fine without but cant get easily here cheap.

The Chevrolet Kodiak and GMC TopKick are a range of medium-duty trucks that were produced by the Chevrolet and GMC divisions of General Motors from 1980 to 2009. Introduced as a variant of the medium-duty C/K truck line, three generations were produced. Slotted between the C/K trucks and the GMC Brigadier Class 8 conventional, the Kodiak/TopKick were developed as a basis for vocationally oriented trucks, including cargo haulers, dump trucks, and similar vehicles; on later generations, both cutaway and cowled-chassis variants were produced for bus use.
Following years of declining market share, General Motors (in line with Ford Motor Company) sought to exit heavy-truck manufacturing. After struggling to enter joint ventures or sell the rights to its product line, the company ended production of the Kodiak and TopKick in 2009. The final medium-duty truck, a GMC TopKick 5500, rolled out of Flint Truck Assembly on July 31, 2009.[2]

I have a 2000 topkick box truck with a 454 (with individual coils like an LS!) that has an allision transmission, I've been told it's junk so I drive it like a little old lady.

I have a 2008. C4500. I tow my 40 ft gooseneck trailer. It’s a 4 Dr Loredo conversion with a Texas hauler bed. It tows really good. Has been reliable I have had a few electrical issues but were easily fixed. Just replaced the rear air bags. Also rebuilt the fuel filter housing/ primer. Runs great and fuel mileage is decent. Huge improvement over a dually.

Drove a 2005 topkick at work, it use to have a turbo issue, think it was a variable vane? Took 3 months to get because of back order issues. Mechanic said I had to drive it like I stole it to keep it from plugging up. That was a big 10-4 from me. Company sent it out of state because of BS californian emissions regulations.
My experience.

be safe, schick
