How do you feel about an 8.50 cage?.....

Ok guys, I'm in a dilemma. I was pretty set on putting an 8.50 Wolfe Racecraft cage in my coupe.

What's the fastest you guys feel comfortable running in the 1/8th? I know an 8.50 is roughly 5.30's in the 1/8th, but I'm asking personal preference. What is your own comfort level?

I will be driving this car on the street a lot and that's the main reason I opted away from a 25.5.... However, I want safety first.

If I went 25.5, how do you guys feel about driving a 25.5 on the street?

I am liking the idea of a 25.5 but want to see what others say towards the 8.50.

Opinions appreciated.

Chris

The MPH you can run @ 8.50 is 155 and can be up to 165...

Even 150 is easily 4.80's in the 1/8th..

When you start hitting 5.0's you really need to upgrade your chassis, but you do have to be aware that a minor accident can cause you severe damage if you hit your head with no helmet on a roll bar even if it is padded with the SFI stuff

That's my thing. I'm really not sure how fast my car will be. I do hopefully plan to run some mid 5's or a tad lower. I just don't want the hassle of having to look around the funny car cage on the street.

My car still had the 8.50 cage when I ran 4.80's. The tech guys were tired of giving me 1 race waivers. lol. Seriously IMO the chassis was unstable at that point. 5.0 and 8.50 is OK in my eyes.

^^^^Bingo! That's how my car was done. When the custom Chassis work was done to my car it was all done in a fashion that I could bring the car back at a later date when I was ready to move to the 25.5. And now the car has a full Moly 25.5 cert chassis

I'm about to get my nova finished up within the month, and I went with a 8.50 cage. 25.5 would be too busy for a street car. my old man's saturn has a funny car cage in it (it runs low 5s wanting 4s) and is street driven every day it can be during nice weather. only reason we went with it in his car is because we knew it would eventually be to the point of "needing" it. its a pain in the butt to see out of his car though.
