I had the same problem with a 10 x 10 door, it is rarely used so I just cranked the springs a little more.. The cost of a opener for the heavy door was out of my price range.

 

I have an Overhead Door unit on my 10 footer.

I know it's for a regular size because when it's all the way up about a foot of the door still shows.

If you're good with that like I am they work just fine. If not, you're going to spend the big bucks on a commercial opener.

Yes, crappy pic,all had atm. 10 foot door,opener has been on it for 20yrs.

 

How does that work. It come with a gear to fit your shaft? Extra parts to but? How much was that?

I have liftmaster 3/4hp chain drives on each of my 18' by 12' insulated doors and they work great?

 

I know they have them that fit on the shaft but can't say I've never seen one thay looks like that. almost looks like a standard chain drive on it's side.

That's what it is. Mounted a bicycle sprocket on the shaft. Standard chain drive opener. Works great. Like said, 20yrs

 

Here you go, one of these beasts are what you need. When I had my 10x12 insulated door installed, the installer offered me one of those or some Chamberlain plastic box POS for the same price,guess which one I picked, been working fine for over ten years.

Liftmaster 8500, I have them on all my doors and a couple are 14' tall. If you have wifi you can set up your phone to open and close the door, it'll even send you a message if somebody opens the door and tell you the temp.

I have had this for 15 years.
I added a remote to it.

 

I'll second the Liftmaster 8500.
I've got one on the door where my lift is in order to clear up the ceiling.
I wish I would have gotten one for the main door.
This is where I bought mine from about 4 years ago.
Not sure if they are the cheapest any longer.

Same here. Got mine locally last month. Was definitely more than that though.

 

Watched a couple of you tube vids...one. a guy took normal opener.. turned sideways. Took the timing chain set off a Ford soaking. Used both sprockets and chain. Lol it worked..
