I have a 2016 f250 super cab long bed 4x4 with the 6.2 gasser. I just ordered a 38' intech gooseneck trailer. I figured it will be around 12,000 lbs fully loaded. So it is within the rated towing capability of the truck. But I am worried that it's just not going to have enough power especially living in western Pennsylvania with the hilly terrain. So I am looking to see if anybody has real experience pulling a trailer like mine with the 6.2. I looked and test drove a 2021 f250 diesel today and they offered me 35,000 for mine . But if the 6.2 will be enough then I am happy to keep it as it only has 14,500 miles.

These threads are always retarded. The tinyest dicked motherfucker will start blabbin he couldn't do shit until he got XYZ....

You want to know what real gutless POS find a mid 80s to early 90s 3/4 ton when the big 3 thought 305s, 302s, and 318s had enough power and tow with one of those turds for a month.

Gassers will kick down a few gears going up a hill thats why the new trans have 10 fuckin gears.

I agree, towed for decades. In the 80’s I had a f350 srw with 302(4bbl, cam, headers, etc) bull low 4spd and 4.56 gears. Towed 24’ trailer with car at 60 mph up and down hills. 90’s was a 85 f250 with 6.9/4spd/3.55 gear, same thing with slide on camper too. 2000’s moved to a 93 f350 4 door with 8’box, 7.3idi/auto/3.55 and went to a 28’ trailer(and bigger slide in)
Max I ever had was 175hp with the 7.3 and towed hills etc. A mountain would drop me back with the semi’s, but it was always safe.
Now you need 700hp and 1000# just to tow???

I suppose if you want to haul 40,000 at 75mph up hill and down without coming out of overdrive.....get a semi...

Take the 3.73's out and put Fords 4:30's if you must keep it . That will make a huge difference. It is going to still struggle with that trailer weight. Your 2016 will probabably bring almost as much money as you paid for it now. I would sell it and get a new F350 truck with a 7.3 gas engine unless you tow a lot, then it's oil burner time. You may be over the rear axle payload with the gooseneck.

if you tow alot a diesel is best..... i have a '18 ram 3500 SRW 3:42 rear.... most i towed on 80 was close to 17klb, thats trailer and shit on the trailer... right around 25k total...... 385/930 engine easily pulled all of the hills on 80....3:42 gearing kinda sucks for pulling out and getting going, but honestly its very nice cruising 75mph at 1700 rpms VS 2200+ with higher gearing so i will take the slower pull outs for the quiter ride.

If you already own the truck with the 6.2 why don’t you wait til you have your trailer and give it a shot?

You haven’t said how often you tow in the hills or any sort of distance. If it’s only once a month 6 months out of a year then I bet you can handle using what you already own.

If it’s a few more times than that but you can’t stand your current truck I’d be looking at the new 7.3 because modern diesels are expensive as hell and if you don’t use them like they were meant to you’ll end up with expensive repairs.

You have a 5 year old truck with next to nothing for miles on it. Unless you just have money to burn I would avoid the diesel even if it means spending an extra $100 in fuel per trip.

I am getting to the point in my life that I can afford to have nicer toys. The wife and I never had any kids and we both do well at our jobs. everything else we have is paid off. I am planning on doing more traveling for racing. i got my last truck when I still only had my other thunderbird. and the transition into the current car took a few years so i wasn't putting miles on my old truck. The old car was pretty much every weekend from open of season till december as I would travel south. So the low miles on my truck is not an accurate representation of how the new one will be used.

I was thinking the same thing. Remote turbo under the right front of the bed after the cat with a 12V oil pump to return the oil to the engine. Should force about about 6 lbs. thru the throttle body.
And that's good for a 35-40 percent increase in power

Thanks for all the replies. Most of you confirmed what I kinda knew already but was hoping my little 6.2 was up for the task. But it will be nice not pushing the engine so hard.
With that being said, I am getting a 2021 f250 xlt premium crew cab with a 8 foot bed. Antimatter blue.

That Power Stroke Should Tow Like A Freight Train!!

That's blue? Looks black to me.

You want gutless, it's a 1980 Ford Econoline cube van with a 300, a friend bragged about tht "torquey beast" and offered to tow me up to Ashcroft... I knew that was a mistake in the first ten miles at the first small hill where we were on the shoulder with the four way flashers going. His foot to the floor doing walking speed and a group of bicyclists passed us on the left shaking fists at us. Finally bailed on the trip three hours later near Yale as it would have been well after tech closed by the time we got there. What was normally a four hour tow would have been more like eight to ten hours when you are going 2 in a 60 zone for miles at a time.

I'm interested to see how the '21 6.7's do. Have a buddy with a '14 Platinum that is a great truck, but we got two '19's at work that are less than impressive and pushed the boss over to Chevy and Dodge. - All of "the big 3" diesels in the fleet in 19's now, plus two '21 2500HD Chevy's. Our Fords are definitely the least impressive, even more so at close to $20k each more money being they were XLT FX4's not just power optioned work trucks. Sadly though, little real-world difference in amenities from the others, definitely nothing justifying nearly that much $ difference.

I will say the 10-speed vs the 6 in the Chevy's is a very noticeable upgrade between the 19's and the 21's, I would assume similar for the Ford's.

LOL I paid 55k plus or minus for my 19 XLT diesel, (which is 60k now) and youre saying a 35k (40K) chevy diesel is just as good lol. What you smokin son?

The only gasser I've had that pulled better than any other I've had was my 13 F150 with the EcoBoom. Dont know that I would trust it pulling in the hills of Penn.

The 6.2 in my opinion is a gutless turd. I've only driven a Raptor with one but it was enough to turn me off.

I've heard from many the new 7.tree gasser is a beast.

Diesel is always the answer for big towing.

You’re comparing half tons to HD here, apples to oranges.

The issue with throwing a turbo on a gasser and towing is egt’s. Heat management is a big issue.
I am going to be towing my 30’ Jayco white hawk this summer with my 96 F150 351w 4x4. The trailer weighs about 8k loaded up and I expect the truck to pull it decent for a gasser. The engine has trick flow 170 street heat heads, cam, intake, headers and exhaust and 4.11 gears. 30lb injectors and pimp x shift ecu. Truck only had 14k original miles on it now has a little over 17k. Have had many offers including a straight up trade for a 17 super duty, never going to do that, love the truck.
