Try a straight through packed design with a 1/2" smaller exit. EG 3.5" in/3" out. Thermal temps of exhaust gasses cool quickly and take up less space further from the engine. The 1/2" difference on a straight through will help trap the sound. From a physics standpoint, there is almost zero loss in flow because the exhaust gas is shrinking in size as it travels while sound waves remain the same. That 1/2 inch diff holds the sound waves in the muffler.

what kind of numbers did this thing run so i can compare apples to apples best i can?
car was light. my old 6.0 ran 6.90's, went high 6.30's in his car with a bunch of gear. the 402 ran a best of 6.08 or 9 i think.

if it didnt chage much then theres your answer, but i do kno that duel 3.5 is only efficient to 650 hp.back then my 72 chevelle was black cherry in color and ran 10.5 or 10.75 in nmc. class did very well in the nsca ur dad should remember me.good luck to u both:):):)
You still run 10.50s.... just saying....lol

Yeah Matt, that would be me...The maxflows are a straight through design. I could see all the way through the muffler, no baffles or chambers at all. I have the 2.5 maxflows. I am not building any where close to 500rwhp on my s10. Hooker claims they make more power than an open/straight pipe does...finding the right muffler is a pain IMO.

* I found this over on LS1 tech...

The results in HP order:
1.Flowtech Warlock (open) 374.2 hp/ 333.1 tq
2.Bassani Real Street 373.7 hp/ 333.8 tq
3.Hooker Maxflow 373.5 hp/ 333 tq
4.Borla XS 373.3 hp/ 332.6 tq
5.Magnaflow 372.8 / 332.5 tq
6.MAC 372.3 hp / 331.5 tq

9.Edelbrock RPM, 84db at idle, 93db at 2,000 rpm, 118db at WOT.
10.Bassani Real Street, 84db at idle, 96db at 2,000 rpm, MAX. (120+db).
11.Flowtech Afterburner, 86db at idle, 94db at 2,000 rpm, 115db at WOT.
12.Flowtech Terminator, 86db at idle, 94db at 2,000 rpm, 119db at WOT.
13.Hooker Aerochamber, 87db at idle, 94db at 2,000 rpm, 114db at WOT.
14.SpinTech, 87db at idle, 97db at 2,000 rpm, 116db at WOT.
15.MAC, 87db at idle, 98db at 2,000 rpm, 119db at WOT.
16.No Muffler, 91db at idle, 103db at 2,000 rpm, MAX. (120+db).

The Hooker Maxflow made the best power while still being very quiet at idle/2000rpm, but nice and loud at WOT. The Bassani Real Street also made nice power without being too loud.

i must be thinking of the hooker aerochambers. interesting data base. wonder what the rest of the setup on that car was, and if they used single or dual mufflers.

seems a little iffy though, that table puts the aerochamber and spintech above the ultra-flo. both of which have been known to hold back combos big time. had a buddy go from a spintech to an ultra-flo in a mid 11 second car and picked up 4 mph.

I run the biggest case 3" Dynomax Super Turbos they make. I got tired of all of the noise. My car is so quiet that if there are any loud cars running near it in the staging lanes I can't tell if mine is even running unless I look at the tach.

the question becomes, would going to a 3.5" system hurt me any? other than being a touch heavier? would give me room to grow.
Absolutely. Why do it again when your combo gets larger? Do it once and be done.
