Are they gonna ask what I do with the car, how much HP it makes, etc? I don't expect on track coverage.

basically, did yall tell them every single detail about the car (engine size, turbo size, transmission, what fuel, etc) or just say "hey I want this car insured for $XX,XXX" and they give you a premium amount

I have American Modern for my 68 Z28, (Modified) and my 33 Chevy Coupe (also Modified)

I had to send pictures, I believe they did put modified in their description, and I told them what I wanted them to be insured for. That was it. Gave me an amount.

I have Hagerty. I had to send them pictures of my cars (86 Buick GN, 68 Vette convertible and 78 Z/28. I told them I race the GN and Camaro. I had to send them pictures of the trunk of the Camaro to show that I don't run NO2. Agreed value on each. I am not covered from the burnout box to the turnoff. Other than than that I am covered all year, no mileage restrictions.

I had a 90 Fox body coupe 5.0 insured with Grundy. I had quite a bit of money (and my time) in the car. They just wanted pictures and an estimated value, which they accepted. I also had a brand new motor on an engine run stand ready to go in the coupe. I was planning on calling Grundy right after I installed the new motor to increase the value (I had $9K in the new motor). Then my house burnt to the ground in November 2022. The fire completely destroyed the car, the new motor, and of course all of my tools and spare parts. And the fire almost killed me. (7 days in the ICU).

I put in a claim with Grundy. They took their sweet time sending me a check, over a month. But they did cover the estimated value. Of course, they did not cover the new engine on the run stand, but my homeowners insurance was very generous. What was weird, about two months after the fire, Grundy contacted me wanting to know the name of my homeowners insurance company. Grundy wanted to be reimbursed by them for the full amount. Not sure how that worked out.

Agreed Value. Agreed Value. Agreed Value. Amazing after all these years people still don’t understand. What really kills me is people brag about their high valuations…”Haggarty agreed my car is worth $100,000 so I’m with them”. And they have a $50,000 car. Stupidity, unless you are planning insurance fraud or wreck everything you own.

Check Out J.C Taylor. They were very easy to deal with, only wanted a brief description and one pic, you set the value. I had them for a few years before something happened and for whatever reason they don't insure in NC anymore. Luckily my next door neighbor is a Farm Bureau agent and was able to switch to him with no fuss.

With American Modern, I pay less than $400 per year for both of my cars, ones valued at 40k, the other valued at 30k. Full coverage, collision, comprehensive (fire, theft, vandalism, etc) and with 300k liability. That also includes $200 worth of towing or road service expenses. That's not $400 each, but both together.

It really depends on the insurance company and your policy specifics. Some insurers might ask for detailed information like engine size, modifications, and usage plans to assess risk accurately. Others may simplify the process, focusing more on the declared value for premium calculation. It's best to clarify with your insurer to ensure you have the right coverage. Navigating car insurance can be a hassle, but my experience with MoneyRepublic made it a breeze. Checking services was incredibly quick, and comparing private health insurance quotes was straightforward.
