I'm looking to put a single turbo on a some what stock 454 bbc. I want to get a turbo that's not to small but also not to big. Something that I could grow into as I build the engine up. Thanks in advance guys.

Is it in a truck? Used for towing? Is it in a car? What is your target HP? When you say grow into it.........how much HP are you planning on in the future?
let me rephrase my question a little better. the turbo will be for what I assume is a stock 454. I got it from a friend it was his dads. his dad passed away we don't know the details of the internals so I'm going to assume its stockish. I want a turbo that I can put on it while I build a engine that is capable of making 1000 at the wheels. the reason being I don't want to have to buy a second turbo for the new engine

An Ohio forged crank will live with 1000hp, get a stock stroke. Howards Cams makes some strong stock length rods. Order blower/ turbo pistons from either Diamond. This combo won't break the bank, but will handle your goals. I would start off with a cam in the .550 lift range. You can always swap cams down the road.
^^^^ he's not racing a dyno. He's putting it in a truck. About any straight import 4340 Crank, H-beam rods and 2618 pistons with .200 wall full pins in a 4 bolt block with a short fill, main and head studs will have no problem living at 1500 hp on a quality tune. Add a pair of decent budget aluminum heads with quality valvetrain (this is where BBC money needs to go) and top it off with an intake converted to EFI (weld in bungs and use a 90mm GM or aftermarket ford throttle body) controlled by a Holley Hp ECU w/distributor/cam sensor and fire LS coils.
