I don't have first hand knowledge, but out of the box some of the castings are not so nice. A little cleanup and a lot have worked just fine.

That magazine in your avatar (and its sister pubs) have done these tests a million times! Professional Products is within a HP or two when it comes to the dual plane air gap style and hurricane single plane style. Every single intake made needs fitting/matching etc if you want a good build...(IMO). Take any of this for what ever u feel its worth to ya

 

Car Craft did a big test and compared a bunch of intakes on a sbc. Think they did ok, maybe better in some instances. Probably depend on each casting though for any of the manifolds US or Chinese. I like to try to match anything with the head port and gasket.

 

Pretty sure the old Holley Strip Dominator caused more than a few surprises in those tests...

A friend put on a 'Professional Products' intake on his otherwise stock Chevy 350. A few of the bolt holes did not line up with the cyl. head.
A little elongation and it fit ok.
After a day of driving around, his engine began smoking terribly....billowing oil smoke out the exhaust. Engine began knocking and struggling to run.
Pulled it out, pulled it all apart.....pistons and cylinder walls scored to shit.
Turns out, there was still casting sand trapped in the intake somewhere that came loose with vibration and heat expansion....sucked right into the cylinders.
I think he saved about $18 over a comparable Edelbrock Performer!!

 

After installing an American made intake on my SBF and watching both upper and lower radiator hoses suck shut, I pulled the intake off and found casting sand in the front water ports where they go behind the distributor. I called the manufacturer and after further review, they found more on the shelf and some still in the foundry with the same problem. It isn't just import stuff.

 

I too am off the opinion the Holley's old 300-36 Strip Dom as well as Weiands old 8016 Stealth dual plane intakes are hard to beat.

Kinda like when the mag's do muffler tests, they always leave out the old W/D/T smooth perforated inner pipe REAL glass packs!

I have never run a ProProducts intake, but to continue chasing the squirrel here- I have had a Holley strip dominator on my 489 BBC. It ran ok but I had to cut up intake gaskets to install as the manifold would not cover the water hole on the rear on the driver side of the engine. I used a part of another gasket to cover the hole. Worked fine but was a pain to install. This was with a set of Patriot heads- the water crossover hole was machined to fit the hole in the gasket. I have looked at Brodix water ports and they looked the same, so I can't blame the heads. Just looked like the casting was short in that area.

I now have a Sniper Jr. Nice intake but lots of work to get it usable. I changed to EFI and plumbed a fogger on this, so I had the machine work and welding for those. The ports are untouched from casting so you have to do all the port matching work (that is alot of work). And on top of that, the intake I got was not cast for an intake gasket. I had to have .060" taken off of each face. (The engine machinist told me he has had to do this with every Profiler intake he has used.) All totaled- I spent around $700 for that intake. I have not taken the truck to the track, so I don't know what effect it has had on performance. It does look pretty.

 

Victor Jr. made the most power on my 383 Stroker, it didn't give up any torque down low & made more HP up top - 6500rpm compared to the performer

oh, I put a Mikuni Flatside knock off carb on my son's KX85 (Dirtbike), it ran like shit, couldn't get it to jet correctly, swapped back to a bored stock carb - way better

 

My brother recently used a Professional Products air gap dual plane on a pump gas 406, 10.6:1, Dart SHP 200cc heads, Comp 4x4 Extreme cam (small), 750 quick fuel. It made 450 hp, and 503 ft. lbs. I'm not saying that the intake is good or bad, and was used due to the engine's owner's limited budget (high school kid).

 

I have a pro products casting intake on one of my efi turbo cars-cleaned up and matched it works well-its also being used mainly because the efi small block ford edelbrock intakes cost a fortune and so do the matching fuel rails--in order to make this intake work all I did was buy the matching fuel rails{also made in china} and instead of using the threaded fits guaranteed to leak on the rail-I had the aluminum fittings welded on--it makes great power and runs good--just wish edelbrock would come back down to reality when it comes to the efi {spyder style} intakes

 

I must have gotten lucky.I bought my Edelbrock Super Victor 9.5 EFI intake from Summit when they were first introduced.At that time they were pretty cheap.Now I look at that same intake and would have to pay a 100.00 ,or more,for that intake.Intake is a top performer on a stroked out Windsor.

 

I have a Commie copy of a SBC 23 degree 2925 Super Victor.......it's just slightly off.......anyone want it? $35 and its yours new in the box!
