Short answer is, it won't hurt anything to have it. Engine design between the chain resisting motion and spring pressure on the lobe profile will drive the cam into the block.
Didn't have one on a 440 Mopar and the timing cover took a little abuse. Worst part was the chrome, from the cover, flaked into the oil and embedded in some of the bearings. Cam button is cheap and it shouldn't create other consequences.
If you need a cam button on a flat tappet because the timing is moving around, you probably need the cam tunnel and/or the lifter bores corrected. If the taper in the lobes and oil pump/dist gear draw isn’t enough to keep it pulled into the block, something is up.
