I need a engine for a 98 ford. I found one at lkq that only has 37k miles. Can this really be right? Not sure how they can prove the mileage.

Mileage is recorded from the vehicle it was pulled from. I suppose you have to trust that was done legitimately. Only way I know of verifiying would be to somehow match the serial# of engine to a VIN# and see the mileage on the salvage certificate. I've never heard of that being done though.

I've never had an engine from them but the used body parts I've got were always as described. One time I got a rear bumper assembly for a late Malibu and it was missing the reinf bar. No aftermarket was available. They sourced a used one and sent it free of charge even though I know they lost money on the deal.

Sounds good. Its a whole lot cheaper than building one. The engine I have got really hot after the lower hose blew off on the freeway. I thought it was ok and it runs fine, but then water started coming out of one of the head bolts.

I always ask for the VIN if it is supposed to be a low mile engine, and then run a carfax...If the car fax says the car crashed out at 97,000 miles, it would be hard to believe it if they claim 30,000...Been there and done that with a few local yards, but havent dealt with lkq yet...

This too! An engine will have a vin number associated with it.

LKQ is a huge salvage company. Doubt they would hurt their reputation with false mileage claim, but who knows.

I worked in the Automotive Dealership world most of my life and I can highly recommend them. They are honest, quick and sill stand behind a 'Bad' motor, trans or what-ever. Over the years, I have had to send a couple of motors back, but they did send an inspector out to inspect that the thing was indeed 'Bad', but it was a very professional deal...!!!
Hope this helps...

I've used a half dozen full engines from them and never had a problem. They seem pretty legit to me. Every time I had a question they were right there ready to answer.
