Hey, I'm sure this topic has come up before. But basically I'm trying to figure out what a swap from an 'a' head to a 'c' is worth. It would be on a 598" bracket racing/top sportsman deal. We have an extensively worked set of 'a' heads on it now. Been 7.94 @ 172 and from what we've been told we're close to the limit of that head. Its my dads car and he wants to get it to where he can run fast enough to run some TS without spraying it. How much work would a 'c' head need to to out-perform an all-out 'a' deal?

The E head is also an alternative. Proven to be 15-20 cfm better than a C in the right hands.

I built a 605 BBF with C460 heads. It made 1207 at 7600 rpm and runs 4.70's all day long in 5500 DA air. The A heads will not get there without spending a lot more money. The C heads flowed 520 at .900. This is in a 2000 lb. 4-link dragster.
Sounds like you've got problems somewhere.

what size runner/valve arrangement? what do they flow?

Most go i nthe 450cfm range, while some go in the 470-480 range by better porters, valve jobs.
and Charlie Evans has some going 500cfm with the newer casting , so you might just be able t ostep yours up. also if you do change, I would look at going to the Profilers over the C heads. they (profilers) will go about 540cfm

My dad has the flow sheet somehwere but can't seem to find it. I know they flowed 460 cfm on the intake side. 2.45 intake 1.88 exhaust. The engine is out to be freshened right now. Unfortunately he's kind of on a budget right now and the rebuild is going to be pricier than he hoped because the valves are all shot. So there won't be an upgrade this winter. Our engine builder is gonna try a different cam and see if that is worth a little power

If your going to upgrade to C stuff, get the A205 profilers, they are better than the C460 ford racing stuff. Plus the castings are much nicer and they come with copper seats.

Their are also a number of other A460 variations avaliable, Charlie Evans has some TFS heads that are pretty interesting and unconventional and also IDT has some stuff worth looking at.
