Real good luck on ls-9 gaskets on 5.3 whether iron or aluminum ive had great luck on both types of blocks.

OP, how much timing are you running at that psi?
5.3 single turbo.
I'm running 21 degrees at 17 psi and I keep melting pistons.
93 pump gas with methanol injection.

What compression and turbo? Seems like a LOT of timing on 93, but probably a combination of too much timing and too lean.

 

I'd have to open up the laptop, but I'm sure I'm in the teens. Greg says my low 9 second tune (I run C16 at the track) is safe enough timing wise, we could run it on 93, but it would be on the razors edge. C16 is just cheap insurance to me.

 

I'm not running that much timing on E85. What are the plugs telling you?

 

I've never read the plugs but I have videos of my runs at 2016 dragweek and I'm blowing black smoke just about all the way down.
We also have a video of my afr gauge and it was reading 10.0 the whole time.

Set your timing to 14* and start reading the plugs before adding any more.
You are way over timed for 93 gas.
This is assuming you have verified your timing to be mechanically accurate

 

I'm going by what my friend recorded with HP tuner pertaining to the timing.

 

The problem with meth injection and a single wideband is that one cylinder can be extremely lean from uneven fuel distribution. The wideband could still read rich with one cyl. burned up.. That's when reading plugs are very important. Intercooled? Air temps? What cylinder?

How many people have blown a h.o. 5.3/5.7 gm gasket? Ive put 27lbs to them a few times without a failure, shit china studs at 80ftlbs
