Hopefully we don't have to run a front mount distributor.

Yes, a 4bbl intake with an adapter.

This is for a modified, and can run an aftermarket head, just no aluminum blocks. He is making 530 hp at the flywheel now with a 2bbl, 406 with 227 heads.
We are going to try and get as much compression as we can, use an L92 head with a hydraulic roller cam. Trying to keep it fairly cheap since they may outlaw it after one race. He says if they kill it, he will put it in his street car on E85.

I think a well built 5.3 block, with a 4" crank, and around 13.5:1 with a good cam and a decent set of heads would make quite a bit more power than that. I'm not sure how good the 2bbl carbs are you are using, but I know the stock stroke 3.905 bore 5.3 block I just built with my custom cam and dart heads made 500+ to the tires.. Victor jr intake, stock rockers, stock lifters.. *4bbl and gasoline*

I would have to dig up the dyno sheets, but I think the 400 made 640 with an gas 4bbl before we put the alky 2bbl on. With the 2bbl specific cam.

I like the idea of the 4" stroke, but the track might not take too much torque.

A guy work with is putting together a iron Vortec headed 2bbl motor for dirt roundy round. We had talked about doing a iron headed LS. But rules around here limit valve angle to 20°.
