2 step tuning

Turbo 6.0 LQ4, TH400, with a masterpower 76, E85. The converter is not setup for the application and will not produce boost by foot braking alone(too loose down low). With the 2 step activated I can get approximately 5Psi @ 2900 rpm and 2 degrees of total timing. Heres my question….

I want to start messing about with rich / lean / low timing / lots of timing to get to my launch rpm quicker and hopefully get more boost on the 2 step. How do you know if its rich or lean while on the 2 step? The wideband can be all over the place, do you start adding / pulling fuel until it lays over and questimate?

Thank you,

if your chasing a tune only change one thing at a time if the car is making good power try upping the timing. this may give you an idea if its set low or not if you do raise it try to leave it in until you come of the 2 step ...you can not read afr while on the 2 step you can read every thing up to that point.... also when you come off the 2 step it may shoot lean for a couple seconds.....

i am working through this very issue the way the fuel burns will change if you ad a few degrees to it my lean out. if once you make that change and it works if need be take some fuel out as well. but if it does not go into your target afr area lower the timing and pull some fuel out of it .......i have found with my turbo car being carbed hates fuel and loves timing building boost on the 2 step and my car is a foot brake car.........

another thing im going to play with is staging my car in second gear vs low gear. my car will only go to 24-2500 rpms then it starts puching through the lights on going to leave in second gear .....so i can have more rpm and more boost ......once i got the rpms up it started to lean out as well. i think the added rpm and boost helped burn more of the fuel........im going to test this friday and see how it works .....

when my car had low timing and a lot of fuel it did not want to 60 ft and was realy slow to get going

o low gear i can only 24-2500 rpm and see 4-5 lbs of boost
2nd gear i can see 3300 rpms and 10lbs of boost

what i did was pull fuel ad timing and it revs a lot cleaner and comes up on boost a lot faster its almost like i have a trans brake when i hit the 2 step

do not make any adjustments from afr you see while on the 2 step build your rpms up as they go up keep an eye on what it is right at the point that the car would trigger the 2 spep back it down 100 rpms and see what it is a that point

Your converter is to tight, NOT to loose. But if you put some timing in it, like 38 degrees I bet your stall rpm will increase alot and it will come up better.

I can foot brake it to almost 4k before pushing through the brakes. Id like to leave with less rpm and take a running start at the converter.

My real question is how do you gauge if you are lean or rich on the 2 step if the wideband becomes useless. Martin from tick mentions going lean with lots of timing then pulling the carpet out from under it, from that point on he adds fuel and pulls timing. How can you tell where the tune is if the 2 step goes places on the map that you cannot foot brake to?

Yea 4k on the footbrake is a big difference from 2900 and 5psi. Turn the 2 step off, put the timing at 35 degrees so you getting a good burn and floor it on the trans brake till you get to about 5,000 rpm. This will tell you a more realistic a/f ratio. Tune the a/f ratio where you want it, then when your 2 step is active at 4200 rpm your a/f ratio will be close to where you tuned it to.

Why would you want to make a run at the converter? Racing a turbo car is not like racing an n/a car.
