The same number of people are dumber than average as there are smarter than average.

But if you took a poll and ask people where they lie on that range, (below, average, above) the results would show a much higher percentage above average. ;)

You’re referring to the median, not the average. Just FYI.

Median, yes. Average, no because it's skewed by the outliers, the median isn't.
But the poll part is spot-on. Most dumbasses don't know they're dumbasses. On the other side, a lot of very intelligent people aren't very sure of themselves and tend to rate themselves lower than they should.

Okay, let's get this cleared up. Using the term AVERAGE was NOT incorrect. Yes, MEDIAN average is more specific but MEAN average and MEDIAN average are both averages.

 
MEAN is the statistical term for average,
Median is the statistical term for the specific one (or two) in the middle of an array of values..
Not the same thing.
Median is used when you don't want to allow the influence of the outliers.
But I get what you're saying.
