I'm a 2 stroke guru, ive never built a bike/ hot saw but on my bucket list. I'm some what in the know of bike hot saws based on curiosity and interest.

The common in open hot saws are 250 cc moto motors ( Honda Cr & kx Kawasaki) with the trans removed and the Rotax and various other two cylinder snowmobile motors split into single cylinder. The past few years the Rotax's around 330-370 c.f. have dominated. The sled motors are popular due to the power valved exhaust some what contrversual topic.

Why yes it would be for personal use but I want the real deal. Jimbro seems to have some knowledge on these saws. I might have to pick his brain. I’ve never had the opportunity to get close enough to one of these saws to gain any solid knowledge. The chains, are they special? Like a skiptooth style or something like that to keep the chain speed up?

Yeah, the chains are spcefic built for hp/size and the chain speeds are around 200 mph and seem to be pretty secretive shit. The 250's moto are down on power compared to the Rotax/ sled motors but are more manageable to control. Public opinion is once past upper 370 cc. range the weight/vibration of a singal cylinder gets unmanageable. From experience based on the rpm's their claiming to obtain the port timing is north of 200°. The sled motors by desigmn have better port configuration/ dimenrions and power valves for improved mid range over the moto motors.

There is a guy recasting cr-250 cases without the gearbox for some Karting venues for $300 aprox. I'm surprised the hot saw builders haven't went that route for simplicity /weight.
