which starter do I need and/or which starter are you using if your combination is the same? does anyone have the right part number of a quality starter to use? my starter bolts onto the JW bellhousing, not the midplate. current starter bendix does not seem like it flys out far enough to catch/engage the flexplate, but does hit the flexplate, barely. HELPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks, todd

Is the flexplate the hydroformed one or the flat one with the steel spacer. Is the flexplate 157 or 164 teeth/ Does the bellhousing have a stamp on it that says which flexplate (#of teeth) to use? A mixmatch can make starter engagement a mess. Also , does the ring gear on the flexplate have an offset to one side or the other of the plate?

Let me know, Hutch

A fix for the situation is to use the midplate from SkinnyKid. Have the same phucking problem as you, but it will be fixed in a couple days when I get back under the car. I am using a Tilton starter.

I use Rayyyyyy2's SVA starter for the sbf.
Its a mini started boosted up to handle some compression.
What I have found is drill out the top bolt hole to allow some adjustment in the starter.

I use a Platinum Series CSI starter and is hands down the best ford starter.

hi there ,i do a lot of sbf stuff and the best starter i have found is made by CVR it handles up to 16 : 1 compression , and has a removable front mount which allows two things first you can rotate the starter 360 degrees to make room for large tube headers and the front mount can be changed to correct your gear engagement . i have found no better starter have had the same issues as you are having . hope this helps
