I know we have the "DRAG RACING IN THE GOOD OLD DAYS"... and the "Cars in fields, barns, and junk yards thread"
which showcase either drag cars from back in the day, or abandoned cars from yesteryear, but how about photos of anything automotive, and old. Actual old photos, not photos of old vehicle taken recently.

I was thinking of requesting only black and white photos, but then realized there are many interesting photos from back then, after color photography came into play.

Cars, trucks, motorcycles, gas stations, etc.....all makes and models. No brand bashing.

"1955. Sam Gray, David Rutford and Fred Hallberg begin their cruise down the Mississippi river from Saint Paul Minnesota on a homemade raft. The raft was built of barrels and planks. Power for the propeller was provided by a 1939 Chevrolet they had paid $15 for. The car had 172,000 miles on it. The rear wheels of the car ran against another set of wheels which turned the propeller. The car's steering wheel turned the raft's rudder.
On July 25 1955 the trio reached New Orleans. They planned to drive the Chevrolet back to Minnesota.
Epilogue. The three men made it back to Saint Paul driving the Chevrolet in 49 hours. The car used five gallons of oil for the return drive."

Amazing how much difference modern tires make. That 454/450 Chevelle equipped with the factory F70/14 pizza cutters sports a 0-60 time of 6 seconds, about what you'd expect from a stock Chevy Tahoe. Equipped with a set of modern MT drag radials, for example, you could probably take 1.5-2 seconds off that time. Combine weenie tires with a big-cam, big-port engine in a 4000 pound car and it's understandably weak down low.

Drop off any unwanted LS6 Chevelles at my house, please. ;)
