Anybody ever deal with them? Buddy of mine is looking for a 383 long block, he has lots of good deals on Ebay, but he wants to make sure before pulling the trigger.

Thanks in advance, discuss.

Ya, I know both VERY well. Fred builds a decent piece, he knows his shit, and he has decent guys working for him.

My personal advice is don't consider the other place.

The prices are good because it's 90% cheapest chinese shit he can find, and anyone that has installed, bought, used any cheap performance parts in the last 10 years know's that he can't standing behind it all or he would be out of business, bottom line, think about it.

They are pretty close to me and I've bought parts from Skip White, fair price for what I bought.
There are 2 different Whites, Skip and Fred. Fred is older and Skip's uncle. Fred has had his shop for years and he was the machinist and raced for many years. Now to really throw a curve I believe Fred has sold out to some of the guys that work there and I don't know what he's doing now, some said he was opening another shop.

You pays your money and you takes your chances when buying a motor, in some cases it doesn't matter if it's mailorder or in person! Did you look at Ohio Crankshaft and Competition prducts?

In 2012 I bought a set of 210cc runner aluminum heads. The intake runners were raised enough that a regular SBC intake wouldn't fit, had to go with a big Chinese single plane I bought from KMJ. The heads needed to be gone through since the seats were loose. Lots of slag which was no biggie to clean up. Some parts left out of my original order which they did ship right away.
One of the items I bought were a head stud kit, when a local builder saw them he warned me not to use that "cheap shit."
I often wondered, since the Chinese copy everything else that maybe they are copying products and SW is selling them as the real deal? Not accusing him, just wondered that....

In the end, I sold the heads and intake for damn near what I had in them and put the money towards a set of DART's and a good intake and doubt I go that route again.
To the OP. Do a Google search on SW, there is a lot of info good and bad out there for you to formulate your own opinion.

It shits me that they used the idea that the parts were manufactured in Australia when they first launched the procomp line.

Sydney Speed Supplies used to be a legit business that sold all name brand gear at good prices, i bought quite a bit of stuff off them in the late 90s. Now they solely deal in China, the original owner doesn't even live here anymore i believe he is in Cali somewhere.

I bought a 454 to 468, BALANCED, rotating assembly from him/them a few years ago; then had MY machinist go through ALL of it. Only one rod had been removed from the plastic covering it; same with the pistons, and the crank had't been touched by human hands since it was packed. So, they used STOCK factory balance weights, to "ballpark" the so-called precision balance I thought I paid for. MY machinist did do a PRECISION BALANCE, which is what I thought I was paying for. Will I do business with them again? Absolutely NO!!!!!!!!!!! My short block is together, everything looks good, and the heads are sitting on the shelf, ready to go onto the short block. I still think it was a cheaper way to go, even though they were not completely TRUTHFUL, on what they did. Will I do business with them again? NO WAY IN G.D., F'n, HELL!!!!! NO ONE lies to me in a business transaction, and gets away with it. When my car finally hits the track, just see what the decals say about, "Skip White"; it ain't good. You listening Skippy Boy? I got what I paid for, I knew there would be some, "iffiness", in dealing with them; I took the chance, and wisely had the parts re-balanced, and should be fine, now. I won't send ANY repeat business their way, NO referrals, and that's what's really important in ANY business, repeat customers and referrals. Now, I spoke with "Skip White or his representatives" on the phone, before AND after, the arrival of my parts. And I knew there was some "piling up of the fertilizer pile" going on, but I did NOT expect this much DECEIT. Straight out LIES about how they "balance" a rotating assembly. Like I said, my machinist went through everything, and I trust him completely with his work. Everything, should be fine, NOW. The crank also had to be polished, so it would't literally destroy the bearings on startup. ALL the rods had to be re-balanced, big and little ends. Pistons/pins had to be weight balanced/matched. Major brand bearings and rings, so that's pretty much a given with balancing. And yes, the crankshaft had to be PRECISION BALANCED to the rods/pistons/bearings, and rings. Was there a cheaper way of going about ALL of this? Yes, but it would have involved using the stock, cast crank and rods, maybe some aftermarket pistons, new rings/bearings, and all of this may have cost me more in the end; in the "long run", as they say. Time will tell just how much of ALL of this will work out. Hopefully, my little big block, will leave it's mark on a few competitors, and not on the tracks surface. There is ALWAYS some trade-off when dealing with these cut-rate vendors; I overestimated just how much Skip White was playing with. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
