Real world BBC elec water pump opinions?

I am rebuilding just about everything, so I was researching the various elec water pumps available. Previously I used the proform brand pump the car came with and it worked fine. (35 GPM, but no amp draw rating on summit). Looked at the meziere 42 GPM and 55 GPM ones. Found that the aerospace components one (AC-BBC3) flows 37, but only take 4 amps. The meziere ones were double and triple the draw. So since I could get away with the flow rating, and it's a really low draw pump (I run a total loss sytem anyway) it's a win, win situation. Anyone actually run this brand pump? I've got plenty of cooling, and run E85 so it should be good, but real world opinions?

You need to check the flow rate with the pump on an assembled engine. It'll be about 12-14% of the advertised rating.

Pump ratings are done in more of a "free flow" condition, not on an assembled engine with restrictor orifices in head gaskets, etc.

Good point. I had a 35 gallon rated generic brand one without cooling issues. Just figured the aerospace components one drawing only 4 amps was too good to be true. Dedenbear has a 3 1/2 amp one, but flow is lower. Figured here was where to ask. Many racers.

I have had a meziere for many years. It has always worked very well. Even after sitting many times not being used.
Have always used it with an electric fan and a shroud.

Meziere is considered by many to be the premium pump for racing. Areospace products all have very good CNC machining, but the ones I have used, brake kits and vacuum pumps, did not live up to my expectations. I would use CSR if I could get them only because they were cheaper and did the job well. I am using Mezieri now and no issues.

I myself got four years use out of the proform one. It was used and I didn't know the age of it when I got the car. Even a low end one can last, but the low amp draw makes me interested in the aerospace comp one. I know meziere is the name for high flow ones, and considered the 42, or 55 gal ones. Anyone else use the Aerospace one?

I have been running a 55 gpm Meziere for 14 years on a 496 and now on my 555 without a single problem. Cools great in a street/strip car!

My proform started leaking this yr at the block/motorplate, was using some o-ringed spacers so I tried gaskets and same issue ..... turns out the ends where a bit "pigeon toed" so to speak, so a small touch on surfacer trued it up and all good... Still in service

From Proform's website:

The new Chevy big-block electric water pump features a durable 12-volt motor pumping up to 35+ gallons of water per minute. Each pump is made from durable but light-weight die-cast aluminum with epoxy powder coating for corrosion resistance. Comes with FREE billet aluminum inlet fitting, and mating weather-tight connector. Draws 6 amps.

any one know if the merize 42 gpm has inlets on both sides like the cheap ebay one? im using the 2nd inlet as a bypass for the thermostat tell the engine warms up i just dont think it flows enough under load car sits at 210 wile doing 2k rpms on the highway doing 65 let off the gas and at 1200 rpms it drops into the 190s quickly

One thing that i dont think is a bad idea is to wire in a warning light, for sure a good idea if its a street car. Its on my list and they are like 30 bucks with the sender. I watch the gauges pretty close, but someday the water pump could give out and it wont take but a minute to overheat. That or if you forget to turn it or the fans on
I got mine on with the key, but the fans are on a switch.
