Un Dumb me, what is Blueprinting a fuel pump

 

Oil not fuel, anyways, I have always blueprinted mine by pulling the cover off, looking the gears over, making sure the bypass isn't stuck, dumping some oil on them and spinning them over by hand.... I let the real blueprinting up to the manufacturers. Which involves checking all the clearance specs.

 

What is the application, is this a race engine , street engine , front sump, rear sump, it all makes a difference.

 

Street engine, front sump. 6,000 rev limit with stock pan with milodon louvre.

 

I would use the melling select pump for the 351W, you should be good in that application

 

Sounds like a waste of Money..

 

I like how the select supports the pump shaft at the cover. Many others have this feature too.

 

BBC pump cover bolts have a torque spec according to Melling. M77HV and similar is 88 inch - pounds. End play usually is .002-.003". coated gears and extended shaft into cover along with anti-cavitation channels are all good options from Melling. Look at Select # 10078.

 

Just a thought, you should spend the $$$ on a better oil pan vs a killer oil pump. The out of the box Melling pumps are plenty for your application. The pan is questionable if you are going to launch it hard.

 

The Melling Select pumps are not that expensive and will be plenty for your application.

 

So you're saying buy a new pump instead of having mine work?
