I don't see a problem with the rule.

Six and seven point harnesses are standard in road racing especially in formula car racing where the driver is in a reclined position. The 2 crotch straps prevent the driver from sliding under the lap belt. The center crotch strap of a 7 point keeps the lap belt from riding up and reducing tension on the shoulder belts.

The 6 point harness lower pair of straps is just like a fall protection body harness used in industry and they work just fine.

The issue is we have to modify our cars to make them work.
I sit straight up in all my cars, how do these work any better than my 5 pt??
I can't slide forward at all now.
Other than my balls might not hurt as bad if I crash.

I saw this info on the Going Bracket Racing Facebook page a few days ago.
They said certain companies are replacing the crotch straps with the 6 point strap if you recently purchased a new 5 pt. They usually have a lot of good info on there. I suggest following them for updates.

Good to hear. I was actually going to call today.

I'm poor, so yes my car is old as frick.
If my old fat ass can get in & out, the next generation should be able to get in & out!!!

I have two leg braces, bad shoulder, back pain, arthritis and I can actually get in without removing the wheel.
It's not pretty, but I can do it if I have to wearing a -20 suit!!!!

Some of these cars barely have anything on their right side to even be considered a F/C cage!!!
It doesn't even connect to the floor.
It just loops out and back again.
That's not going to offer any protection if a dragster comes through the passenger door!!!

I know I bitch about nhra more than most, but this is something they aren't being strict enough about!!!!

does NHRA do egress tests. 5 seconds to kill the power, unbuckle and crawl out of the car.

Yeah you're not doing that with a newer Camaro.
I bet most drivers can't even get through the window opening with their helmet on.

I know for a fact I am one of the very very few guys in my group with a main power kill system inside the cockpit.
Mine is above the delay box with one of those slap style toggle switches.

I have showed 2 or 3 guys here how to do it, but it's not very common.

I know 30 years ago nhra didn't even do the blindfold test,
so I highly doubt they are doing anything else but collecting their checks!!!

I know I will have to get used to doing the fuel cut off this season.
After 40 years of the same set up, having a belt driven fuel pump will take a while to get used to.

Good thing about carbon fiber doors, if I want out, I'm getting out!!!

NHRA is years behind as far as safety technology goes. NASCAR will take crashed cars back to an R&D center and inspect everything and make necessary changes. Seats are a big problem in a lot of the cars now. I'd rather see full containment seats. NASCAR doesn't even allow the belts to be mounted to the cage anymore. They are mounted to the seats to keep the driver from moving around in a crash. That racer that got ejected either didn't have his belts on or they were extremely loose. A 7 point harness with a junk seat is still Russian roulette. Even those carbon seats are garbage if you ask me.

My belts are to the cage and my seat is just a piece of tin, it's not even a seat.
So there is no compression like those plastic POS things I had 30 plus years ago.

I have the pour in seat beads, but haven't used it yet.
We tried it a couple of times in other cars and they failed.
The epoxy didn't hold for some reason??

AGAIN, my entire issue is I don't believe a word the nhra says anymore.
They lie more than fauci does!!!!

HOw well is that 2 piece suit going to protect you when you Taco up trying to get out of the car, esp. a rail. 2nd degree burns on lower back from when the jacket rode up getting out of the burning car.

If you've ever been to a Shriner's burn institute and here someone getting dipped to clean their wounds as the nerves are regenerating, youo'll pay extra for the needed safety equipment and hope you never need it.

I've cooked myself bad enough to "smell the bacon" of my own flesh, it was only a minor 2nd degree burn on my arm at that.

Ugh....The biggest thing I see about this, is that all the classes they are requiring this in (advanced ET) get until Jan 1, 2026 to update, Top Sportsman and Top Dragster get until MID YEAR, July 2025, which I think is friggin STUPID! Either make the change for the start of the upcoming season, or for the beginning of the next, NOT MID YEAR.....Not sure who the brain child is behind that but they need to lose their job. This isn't a simple fix for my car either....I'm going to have to modify the seat, possibly add in a couple of bars under it as anchor points...which is more involved than what it sounds like. At least my seat belt I currently run already starts life as a six point, as it has two full length crotch straps, I just trim one back as I haven't been using it... I'll have to get a new one, but I get a free recert anyway and they add it back in when they do.....
