Hey guys here's a good one.
I have 2 jazz fuel cells with the plastic red cap.
Within the last month both are getting very hard to twist and open to the point i had to take one apart ,unbolt it to put alcohol in to it.
I have now ordered 2 new cap assemblies and will put them on this weekend.
The cell are about 4 years old.
Anyone else ever have this problem, just curious.

Thanks

Yep. Its on my list of things to look at this week. It appears that the tabs in the top ring don't line up perfectly with the tabs on the bottom ring when in the open position. I'm either going to try filing them even or buy a new one.

Yep. what happens is the plastic part that twist and turns under the metal ring swels and makes this hard. i did the same thing order a new one fixed the problem then it came again. I ended up just removing a bit of material from the platic and its has good as new.

the edges of the tangs get hung up in the ring of the tank. either round off and thin the tangs or file the 3 relief areas on the tank ring.
I was going to get a Mcamis cap but then you cant get a hand in there when cleaning the tank.

The alcohol makes the plastic swell.
When I changed from gas to alcohol with in a couple of weeks I was having a hard time getting the cap off of my Jazz tank. After some grinding of the tangs on the cap I have had no more problems.
On this same note the plastic part that goes inside my System One oil filter swelled up so badly I did not think I was going to get it out to clean it. I had to reduce the diameter of the piece to get it back inside the filter screen.
Any one have this problem with their System One oil filters?

You are talking about the plastic basket that goes inside the Sysem 1 oil filter? I had the same problem on alcohol.I called System 1 and they said that is a problem with alcohol and sent me a new 1 no charge, just had to pay shipping........Grant

Have a friend with problems with his plastic cap. Had to grind the heck out of it to get it to work "easily". My truck has the bailing ring style metal cap and after 20 yrs still works perfect.

Yes the plastic basket(good name).
I held it up to my belt sander and reduced the diameter until it would go back into the screen. Have not had any more problems since then.
The alcohol is definitely a problem. Never had a problem when running race gas.

the new pump gas has ethanol in it and swells the seal and comp./plastic .new race fuels from vp and others also have this (oxygenator) in it
it will also swell the poly clear site plugs in the bowls till the floats hang up
