Is this a LQ4/9 or LY6?

Picked up a SBE 6.0 from a guy who told me he bought it from a salvage yard (has salvage yard tag on the engine with VIN which says its from a 2006 3500 pickup). The VIN has a 8th letter of U which is supposed to be a LQ4. (Obviously the tag could be completely wrong)

With that said, the engine has LY6 pistons. My question is, has anyone heard of a "LQ4" coming with the LY6 pistons from the factory? Im just trying to figure out if I have a true unmolested 6.0 short block or if someone has thrown some Gen 4 rods/pistons into a Gen 3 block.

Also to add, it has a black crank sensor and the cam sensor is on the back of the valley cover.

Also, since I'll have some experienced eyes looking at this thread. Im planning on the following build with this SBE 6.0 for a 72 Camaro to have a nice street cruiser:

LQ9 SBE
0821 LS3 heads with BTR springs
Holley mid-rise carb intake 300-131
230/238 .600/.615 110 CL
Quick fuel 750

What should I expect for power?

Top end was sold before I got there. Said it had 317 heads on it. I haven't cracked into the bottom end (which Im sure will tell me all I need to know). Are there any places I could check that would have the last 6 digits of the VIN on the block to see if it matched the VIN tag provided by the salvage yard?

Late 06 they started planning for gen 4 motors...i have from GM a 2007 6.0 block that is a gen 3.5

This block has the gen 4 knock sensor provisions and the gen 3 knock sensor provisions...it also has the bosses for thr timing chain dampener

If it was a late 06 it could very well be a hybrid setup...check the block for knock sensor locations..if has both that makes total sense as its a gen 3.5 which would be given relief pistons

From what I remember about the Gen 4 stuff, the red circle is the boss for the Gen 4 knock sensor?

If so, I basically have a LQ4 with LY6 (get 4) rods and pistons while still having a 24x engine kind of like the LH6 5.3 that came in the GMC Envoy Denalis?

Damn, I never get lucky on stuff like this. I thought I was buying a Gen 3 LQ4 so this is a nice surprise!

Piston CCs must be the same then, LY 9.6 70 cc & LQ 71 cc 9.4
That's a surprise to see 2500 stuff early, they did 1500s in 1999 & 2500s in 2000 but that was a much bigger platform change.

Didn't the early aluminum Envoy 5.3s have 706 heads instead of 799s?

Its a late gen 3 (as some call gen 3.5) LQ4 exactly how it was described by the seller. Has floating pin rods and valve reliefs in the pistons as late 04+ did. Cam sensor in rear china wall is dead give away that its not gen 4.

Any guesses what that combo should make?

You got a weird one there for sure. Lol! Never seen an LQ with those double flycuts but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. They also had us back service some of the older ones that didn't have the coated skirts and floating pins with the later design if they were having cold start piston skirt slapping issues. Doubt that's what you have here since it's an 06, but you could very well run into it.
